Fruits Basket‘s second cour so far has been a ride on a rollercoaster. There’s intense episodes where the viewer gets a lot to think about and then there’s calmer episodes, where it might feel like nothing happens but there is an important part for a future episode or story. Let’s check out the best parts of this episode!
Japanese Title: そうでもないさ (Sou demo nai sa)
Hard times have come for Tohru, because instead of bickering like usual Kyo and Yuki both started to behave really strange. Even when Shigure takes them to a house at a lake that belongs to the Soma family the two of them hardly talk. Tohru quickly assumes that she must have done something wrong and starts to apologize – which then leads to Kyo and Yuki turning back to normal again. When Ayame appears in the house the chaos seems perfect and we dig a bt deeper into the past of Shigure, Hatori and Ayame.
There is Shigure being stupid and pretending to run away from his editor Mitchan. But there is also Shigure being considerate of his friend Hatori and trying to bring him away from the city, since his ex-girlfriend is getting married this weekend. It’s those moments that make me really weak for Shigure and why I don’t know how high he actually ranks within my personal character ranking. Precious boy.
Tohru is in panic, apologizing to Kyo and Yuki for nothing. The real cuteness was how she laughed when they fought each other again. She can already see that they do not hate each other completely, even if they fight.
Hatori is such a perfect adult. How he talked about the wedding and that he thinks that Kana and he are still in love. That he doesn’t even want to be with her, since it doesn’t improve their situation.
The most beautiful thing about the episode is when they tied it back to episode 14. Let me refresh your memory: Momiji thinks that there is no memory that should be forgotten and that his mother is a bit unfair for choosing the easy way out while Hatori does not think bad of Kana. He denies that he thinks she is leaving him behind and she took the easy route out when Shigure and Ayame ask him. Quite literally, he just wants her to be happy. However that is.
This is so vague, one might miss it. Shigure was together with Mayu, but only for a month. She left him. And when our man-trio talks about it, Shigure doesn’t really react much. However, we get to see her – Tohru’s teacher – later in the episode. There is a story here that is waiting for us to be unfold! I can’t wait!
Nothing much for me to say this week! It was just an episode of pleasure and joy and we are already way in too deep with all the characters. There is nothing to do but love them, for all their faults and good points.
I want to give this point to Hatori, because he was kind of the main character and my heart breaks for him a little bit whenever Kana comes up. Yuki and Kyo this episode were in balance, because they both fought together, were happy together and were angry together. Hatori however made my heart skip a beat with his stern adult side. Even more than ever.
