While the Spring 2019 season is coming to an end, fans of Fruits Basket won’t have to say goodbye yet, as the series continues into the Summer 2019 season! We will be able to have fun with Tohru, swoon over Yuki, Kyo, or whoever it is you swoon over (*cough*Momiji*cough*) and find out more about the mystery around the curse of the Soma family. Let’s see what Episode 12 had in store for us, and let me tell you: there is a real thread in this episode.
Japanese Title: 楽しそうだね (Tanoshisou da ne)
It’s back to school in this episode, and as we found out in the last episode, Momiji and Haru will start going to Tohru’s school as well! Kyo and Tohru go to welcome them warmly when already the first problems unfold. The student president council is not amused by the way the two Somas are wearing their school uniform and hair. Haru’s black and white hair makes the president doubt that it is real and not dyed and Momiji went ahead and is wearing parts of the girl’s school uniform, which isn’t allowed either. The fight peaks when Haru starts to defend Momiji and is solved by the start of the classes. When Tohru sees Akito on the school grounds, she heads out to talk.
Tohru wore Yuki’s present! I am in heaven!
‘You can space out all you want when I’m next to you.’ Ugh, Kyo, one day you are going to kill me. Saying such cute things out of nowhere to Tohru.
My pretty boy!! I loved that he wore the school uniform of the girls and nobody said anything until the people from the student council came. That’s the spirit!
The whole situation was so much fun. Dark Haru is such a flirty tease. We are not like Tohru and are going to ask how he proved to the student council member that his hair was indeed natural…
Making a character scary is not always easy, because if things get too bold it might get unrealistic. However, if you see a brave, strong character like Yuki turn into a scared, miserable ball of panic you know that you have just faced the most evil character of all. I am legit scared of Akito, and I only remember some of her cruel ways from the manga. This was an amazing scene and I am so impressed by how brave Yuki is for running to Tohru to see if she was unharmed even though he was scared himself. The way Akito said ‘You look like you’re having fun’ gives me such a bad feeling about what she plans to do next, I have goosebumps!
So obviously we know that Akito is female. Tohru however thinks it is a guy and keeps saying ‘he’. Just don’t forget that Tohru doesn’t know how much fun we can have with that!
Okay, so I wrote above that Akito is really scary. And I stand by what I say, but can I also say that I don’t think that she is lost to the sane human world yet? Like a child, she is teasing the person she likes in the most horrible way, of course, and it’s not cute in any way but she doesn’t know how to do anything and this is how she is showing her feelings. Apparently she likes Yuki and is happy that he keeps being scared after she literally tortures him, since it means that he can’t forget her. The side note that she thinks Tohru is ugly only adds to that feeling of Akito being a helpless child. At least emotionally she really has a lot to learn and I think it is funny, fun and am looking forward to the unfolding of her story!
This episode it is really hard, but in terms of dokidoki there are only three champions this time. Yuki made my heart break for him for most of the episode this week, so while I loved his performance most, it did not make any hearts skip a beat, except for Akito’s. I think I wouldn’t give it to Akito either, because even though he was so super super adorable in his school uniform, I wanted to cuddle him more than I could feel my heart speed up.
While Haru was really funny and sexy…my point goes to Kyo. His adorable line of Tohru spacing out while he is there was just too good. His reaction on her instantly spacing out again was also too good. Point given to Kyo!
