If you didn’t guess from the episode’s title, this week’s Food Wars, was all about a declaration of war between the remaining rebels and the Elite 10.
Japanese Original Episode Title: 宣戦布告
All the rebels except Soma, Erina, Megumi, and Takumi have lost their matches against the Elite 10 and have been expelled. After giving it a lot of thinking, they decided that the only way to help their friends and overturn the situation would be if they challenge them to a team Shokugeki to win their seats. The only problem is that they don’t have something to offer to Azami in order to accept the challenge. Then miraculously, Joichiro and Senzaemon arrive and propose the team Shokugeki called a Regiment de Cuisine. Joichiro also suggests that if his team loses he would join Central. Azami is thrilled by his offer and accepts the challenge. Soon after, Joichiro, Sanzaemon, and Dojima take Soma and his friends to personally train them and coach them by having a 3vs3 cooking match. While the dish that they are competing for is called Hachis Parmentier and is rather simple to make, both Joichiro and Dojima take different steps from the original recipe to further test everyone skills. In addition to that, they make up another demanding rule of not allowing anyone to speak with each other as they cook.
Joichiro is hot: I might have mentioned it before but Soma’s dad is so badass and good-looking. If only Soma could have taken some of his looks and not only aspects of his childish personality, he would have been complete.
Battle imagery opening: I mean by now I am well aware of the fact that this show is a. way too extra and b. constantly looking for an opportunity to throw some underage tits in our face but the opening of this episode was just… okay so you lost a match and this needs to be illustrated by everyone wearing ripped battle clothing… What the frack am I watching?
Run like a girl: Erina’s running in the corridor made me think of that soap commercial of ‘running like a girl’. Women don’t run like this. Nobody does.
Different plotlines: Let me just repeat myself here and say I would totally watch a show where the rebels went like ‘frack this shit’ and left the school voluntarily, doing their own thing.
Saiba and Dojima: These two look like there will be loads of fun. It will be exciting to see how their relationship will grow.
Soma and Erina: I really liked the scene of them reading each other’s thoughts on their memo pads.
Themes & Trivia
Hachis Parmentier: Basically it’s a more complicated version of cottage or shepherd’s pie. The dish is named after Antoine-Augustin Parmentier, a French pharmacist who, in the late 18th century, was instrumental in the promotion of the potato as an edible crop. The word ‘hachis’ means a dish in which the ingredients are chopped or minced, from the same root as the English word ‘hatchet.’
The narrative in this episode was quite interesting… Everything felt like it was on fast forward (nothing new there) and there wasn’t even a minute for the viewer to process what is happening. Generally the whole build-up was so rushed that I honestly thought that the video was playing in double speed.
So they are having a food battle on a train? And the train has all kinds of spices, ingredients, and equipment for them? Yes, yes this makes so much sense!
Stop messing up my hair
It seems like that is only what Soma says to his dad every time they get into an argument. Their relationship as father and son is so amusing to watch.
