Fairy Gone is growing on me. In this week’s episode Free and Maryla become suspicious of fairy scholars Cain and Damien’s involvement with Veronica. Sweetie has eyes on the Black Fairy Tome and asks help from elsewhere to clean up some fairy soldiers. These mafia hired guns Patricia and Jonathan were plain old crazy, like Fairy Gone’s Joker and Harley Quinn.
Japanese Original Title: せっかち家政婦とわがまま芸術家
Free and Marlya barely escaped Sweetie’s ambush attempt to steal the Black Fairy Tome. It raises our suspicions that Cain and Damien are involved in deeper than they like to let on. Sweetie is not one to leave things alone and organises another assault by hiring some big guns.
Sweetie’s Fairy: This episode cleared up my confusion from last week’s cliffhanger. Sweetie summoning her fairy ‘Screeker Wolf’ emanating this grey smoke that overtook the air. It looked like it was going inside Marlya. This fairy’s ability: if they are damaged, their opponent will feel it as well.
Cinderella Carry: I shouldn’t even be saying this, let alone gushing over this moment BUT IT WAS SO CUTE. Free seems quite protective of Marlya and carrying her in a wedding hold got to me. Free’s character has been growing on me since Episode 2 and that is mainly because of the Japanese voice actor Tomoaki Maeno. I love this man’s voice acting. His previous roles include Hak (Yona of the Dawn), Arsene Lupin (Code Realize). He plays such roles of pretty men and his ability to swoon over you is effortless.
Fake Book: Another question was answered: This Black Fairy Tome was fake. Plenty of fakes are around on the fairy illegal market and within auctions.
Harlequin and Joker: Jonathan and Patricia belong to Gui Carlin, they’re just crazy… especially Jonathan. Did it not remind you of Harlequin and the Joker at all? Because they sure did for me.
She Comes: Once again, the anime leaves us on a cliffhanger. Marlya is about to be assaulted by crazy Johnny and Veronica comes to the rescue, in bad ass grace.
Protected: We find out this episode, when we went back to the moment Veronica and Marlya were last together, why Veronica left Marlya. It was to protect Marlya and to be a diversion, so the soldier would chase her.
Jealous: Episode 2 revealed a similar connection: Free and Marlya have been seeing themselves as ‘bad luck’. Marlya is jealous of Veronica because she was loved by everyone in Suna village and was everything Marlya wasn’t. Hope the series delves into Marlya mindset more of why she thinks of herself as nothing but a burden.
Character names: I hadn’t pointed this out yet but the character names for this series are strange but amusing choises. This episode reminded me to highlight this amusing factor, when fairy soldier from Mafia goes after Marlya, revealing his name is Jonathan. It was so odd because that was the last name I would have picked for Mr. Crazy.
This episode I felt was all right almost till the last quarter which had me on the edge of my sweet. It went from all right to good because of that cliffhanger: Veronica comes to the rescue. Secretly though I was hoping for it to be Free haha. Fairy Gone, I’m slowly getting into you but not at a fast rate. I’m having a hard time becoming attached to other characters. I’ve built an attachment to Free and Marlya but the mass introductions of side and main characters has made it hard to care about them. I REALLY WANT to love this series because the plot is bloody intriguing but Fairy Gone hasn’t done it yet for me. If it can get its plot going and focus on central characters, I believe it can pick itself back up. But we shall see.
This week’s episode was all right and hit or miss at times. It left me on edge with the ending scene of Veronica coming to Marlya’s rescue… Well, you would hope, but who knows?
Tell us in the comments your thoughts on Episode 4 and don’t forget to check out our other series for Spring 2019 we are reviewing!
