This episode revealed some interesting plot developments and Fairy Gone rectified itself after last week’s action-filled episode. We’re given the origins of Fairy soldiers and what is known as the ‘Black Fairy Tome’ is a focal point of the plot. It was very enjoyable to be able to learn more about this world and its origins.
Japanese Original Title: 欲ばりキツネと嘘つきカラス
Free And Marlya are sent to the ministry of fairies regarding an old text with the name ‘Black Fairy Tome’. Unlike other fairy tome texts containing fairy knowledge, this is considered the black sheep of the lot. Many would go to great lengths to possess these ancient books.
Blue Fox: Forgot to mention in my review last week that Marlya took into our blue fox. IT HAS A NAME NOW: CHIMA. So cute, I just want one.
Hunted Fairies: I’m starting to feel sorry for these Fairy beings who were hunted by humans to use in the war. Ah poor beautiful creatures.
Information Overload: It literally felt like I suffered an information overload during this episode. We went into the origins of fairies known as Imaginals that were hunted down by humans and turned into weapons of war. And there are more of those fairy books. Are there different colors? I had to watch this episode twice to just get my head around things.
Awe Wolfran: Seeing at the beginning Wolfran Free’s old war comrade found his home destroyed and learned about the death of both wife and daughter. I felt for the dude, and he is driven by hate and revenge is probably why he joined the Mafia group. I am not sure of his motives yet.
Smell Of Set Up: No way I could see this coming: Marlya and everyone being set up by Damian Carme from Episode 1, who is in cahoots with Marlya’s childhood friend Veronica. The ‘Black Fairy Tome’ Veronica stole in Episode 1 was a fake, so the fake one was used for this setup? There are lots of questions to answer regarding this series but the main one from this episode was this: What was the purpose behind Damian setting this up?
Not So Sweet: The ending of this episode left me pining, when Sweetie revealed of being in possession of a fairy and halting Marlya from shooting her gun. Sweetie’s fairy looked like it was taking possession of Marlya and then there’s a thick air of gray dust surrounding everyone. I was so confused as to what Sweetie had done to Marlya or what actually happened. Nonetheless, it was a good cliffhanger.
Fairy Soldiers: During the unification war, 300 Fairy Soldiers were used and by the end only seventeen remained.
Bell Ring: Strange custom in this world. Men of Timon use the city’s evening bell as a signal to start drinking.
Fairy Imaginals: is another reference to Fairy Adult coming in all different shapes. Possessing the fairy organ allows humans to become Fairy soldiers.
Fairy Tomes: There are blue, red, white, and black texts containing fairy knowledge and technology within them. The first original text was created over 200 years ago. The Black Fairy Tome is different as it contents contains about ‘Fairy Possession’.
This episode had a lot to take in; information overload. But I’m glad Fairy Gone went this route in order for us to learn about more this intriguing, fascinating world. My only concern at this point with all these characters and new character introductions is that the series will make it difficult for the viewers to feel any emotional attachment to them. Fairy Gone has everything it needs to be a good series plotwise but right now all I want is for the characters to be explored more. The only one I’m feeling attached too is Free and I want to know why he joined Dorothea after the long war.
On the other hand, there are characters like Wolfran. This episode revealed the moment he lost his daughter and wife. I felt for the dude but I need more; I need to know why he joined the Mafia and if he’s on a path of hate or revenge or both! Let’s hope in the next few episodes the series will explore its characters more. I want to feel invested but the series hasn’t done this yet. Fairy Gone had a mixed start for viewers who did not feeling that pull yet into this series, but the truth is that sometimes some series take longer to get to that point. I’ve only felt the pull slightly thanks to Episode 3.
This episode was still great. It gave us info on the origin of fairies, about the ministry of fairies, and about the fairy tomes. It’s vital for Fairy Gone to keep revealing more plot as it’s this series heart since it has such a unique and incredibly interesting premise.
Fairy Gone did a great job giving us more plot reveals this episode. I’m latched on. But that cliffhanger left me in confusion: what did that Sweetie woman do to Marlya? Ah, but it was a good way to end the episode. There was a lot to process this week and might take me a few days.
Tell us in the comments your thoughts on information overload Episode 3! Don’t forget to check out our other series for Spring 2019 we are reviewing!!
