Well… that rebellion didn’t last two seconds and I’m left here with mixed feelings about the season’s last episode. As the second half won’t premiere until October, it is probably a good thing it’s going on break at this point. My interest in Fairy Gone has been hanging off a cliff for the past few episodes.
Let’s unravel the good and bad of this season finale for now!
Japanese Original Title: 無力兵士
Everything seemed to be going well for Duke Hybranz’s rebellion with the aid of war veteran Liscar and his party. Quickly things turn sour for the Duke, because of a behind-the-scenes intervention from someone he thought was his friend.
We’re Done Already: The ending for Episode 12 was laughable. Duke Hybranz’s rebellion didn’t last long at all. The buildup for it felt completely flat, just like most of this series characters: Marlya commented, ‘We won?’, haha, did you? Liscar and his party left off some smoke bombs and ran away. Will proclaim them as cowards and says, ‘we won anyway’. Good one Fairy Gone for ending your last episode till October in a laughable fashion, leaving more viewers confused.
Can’t Get Over It: Individuals like war veteran Liscar are plain old crazy. People who have been exposed to so much war, sometimes are not physiological all stable. Liscar is a clear example of this as he is someone who lost purpose the moment the unification war ended. The only thing driving them is the past and for Liscar it is bringing more bloodshed to quench his satisfaction.
Fighting is Scary: Marlya’s first comment, ‘We Won’ was stupid and the second time she goes, ‘why do we fight’, ‘Fighting is scary’. Yes, my dear, it quite is… so is going outside to do exercise when by nature you are a lazy person. Haha.
Free Is Beautiful: Free has been one of the few characters of Fairy Gone that I cared for. He was magnificent to watch fight and I want to learn more about his past, especially about his friend Jet whom we’ve seen in flashbacks.
Soldiers My Ass: Only action that was half decent during this episode was the fight between Liscar and Free. What WERE HIS MAJESTY’S soldiers doing half the time? Liscar just swatted them aside them like they were ants. They never put up much of a fight and were all talk. I just thought they were pathetic soldiers. Liscar was stronger but at least put up a fight… Why won’t you?
Duke Who Now? Duke Hybranz, who I never cared for in the first place, and his pitiful rebellion didn’t last long. Glad Ray Dawn shut up the old relic and his tangent spouts of ideals he held so dear to him.
I felt like Fairy Gone has deceived me by giving me the idea that we’re leading to a war, then that idea is sent to the trash can with the killing of Hybranz. Less he was a pawn in a bigger plan, but with the off-putting storytelling this series has a bad habit of, I’m not counting on it. I’ve been confused for the last few episodes and nothing I feel is going to make sense until the second half of the series. Not all was terrible in this episode: the build up of suspenseful music and action was a great drawn in, especially when Free was fighting. The action and the music were the two pluses for me.
The characters and the storytelling were its minuses, as the series introduced too many characters, leaving them forgettable. The series’ plot direction is still a mess to me. After this episode, I suspect there is a plan in the background that might be revealed in the next half, but at this point, I don’t care too much. One part of this episode I didn’t agree with was Free holding back Marlya from pursuing Liscar for killing Ozz. I wouldn’t have stopped the girl; let her go and kick some ass, that would have made for a good action fight scene, but no… another wasted awesome scene.
Am I going to miss Fairy Gone until October? Honestly, no. It’s not a series right now I’m dying to know what will happen, but it’s going to take an extreme amount of luck for the series to turn itself around. I’ll admit I’ve not felt torn over a series for a long time.
This finale for the first half had its ups and down and now we have absolutely no idea where the series wants to go. All I can do is pray for the second half to do a miraculous turnaround. The series won’t be back till October now so until then I guess, haha
Don’t forget to check out our other series for Spring 2019. And Summer 2019 is about to begin!!
See you in October Fairy Gone… oh boy.
