In this episode (that feels a bit shorter than the rest), we get to know Kay and Pink a little bit better. Seriously, just a little bit.
Kay is assigned to work with Pink who has an infamously bad character and has been working solo for the better part of her career. Their mission is to examine an anthem-related case that is taking place in a host club (what), and really, it could have just taken place anywhere else, but, fanservice. It is what it is.
Pink acts as a bait, in the flashiest way possible, which makes Kay a bit uncomfortable. Later, when a drug dealer approaches them and Pink tries to arrest him, Kay gets in the way saying that it’s none of their business, as he was not carrying any anthem. He takes advantage of their disagreement to escape, resulting in Pink and Kay screaming at each other.
Later, Kay asks her old police teacher for help and he offers himself immediately, only to later betray her and use her as a bait to get Pink to bring them a sample of the medicine they use in anti-anthem bullets. Pink, being too good for anything, is onto him and easily takes him down. Kay finds out the only reason Pink has agreed to work with her is because her dog’s name was also Kay, back in the day.
Pink’s style: PInk does not compromise. She will climb mountains and go around shooting people, yellow nail polish on, and everything. The way she dresses hurts my eyesight.
Cool tunes: Loved that broken jazz playing in the background in the beginning of the episode. Also,I know I’ve mentioned it before, but the ED song is so cool. It reminds me a lot of these trashy Offspring songs back in the 90s, especially Come Out and Play.
Doug is actually an asshole: Funniest bit of the whole episode.
Travis’ angels: You can’t possibly have a secret agent show without a single reference on Charlie’s Angels. One of the worst movies I have ever watched, by the way.
Train spotter: Um… interesting name for a hosting club. Trainspotting is, of course, the hobby of watching trains, but the name is most likely a reference to the 1996 film Trainspotting, which follows the lives of heroin drug addicts. Naturally, the club’s name is referring to the fact that illegal drugs are being sold there.
Large ice cubes: Notice how Kirill’s whisky always has these large spherical ice cubes in it? The reason why such ice cubes are popular with whiskey drinkers is because they take much longer to melt so they don’t water down the drink. Personally, I’d still have it straight.
I don’t feel like this episode really gave us much to look at. A bit boring and uneventful, with some overly common themes. Could have been better.
