There is the potential for this josei series to not turn into a hot mess. I’ll see this series through till the end because my curiosity won’t leave me without knowing what will happen. There was equal focus on Rui and Hina this week in their interactions with Natsuo. it was a good chance to get a feel for the characters in this complex love triangle.
Japanese Original Title: どんなチャンスでも、やったか
Natsuo adjusting to his new family life is anything but easy. He still has Hina as a teacher at his school and now Rui transfers over and Natsuo now glimpses into Rui’s social awkwardness towards others. Natsuo can’t help but also be worried for Hina, as a distressing phone call leaves Hina depressed.
Social Awkwardness: Rui is no social butterfly and we can see how she reacts when she transfers to Natsuo’s school. Natsuo can see that Rui already has pushed away her fellow classmates due to her bluntess but sees past this as Rui underneath is just socially awkward. It was hilarious how Natsuo tried to help her, pretending to be a girl who wants to befriend Rui. This caused a massive argument which resulted in all the benefit, as Rui’s classmates got to see a different side of Rui – that she was approachable.
Let Your Guard Down: A moment of disappointment for Natsuo and Hina will be more careful when letting her guard down at home while drinking. Natsuo mutter he wishes she’d do that all the time; it was funny.
And Splat: Rui catches Natsuo about to kiss Hina and you think she’s about to get mad or yell at Natsuo. Instead Rui knocks her drunk sister on the floor and that was a hysterical moment. It was something I was not expecting because in these scenes I’m use to siblings getting mad.
This week’s episode was surprising in a few ways. Firstly thinking Rui is about to yell at Natsuo for acting on a selfish impulse towards Hina by trying to kiss her. Rui instead just knocks Hina off the bed and sais this is a ‘normal’ scenario for Rui. It had me laughing and caught off guard. That was a unexpected outcome and this momentum continued as Natsuo tried to help Rui feel less awkward when interacting with her classmates. Natsuo pretended to be a girl which was hysterical but I thought it would all backfire. In fact, it turned out the opposite as Rui’s classmates saw Rui was just shy and that she was approachable.
The latter half focused on Rui and gave us a bit more insight to her personality. Also I liked Natsuo’s current approach to the complexity of his relationship with Rui since he slept with her once and then suddenly Rui is his new sibling. Natsuo attempted to not let things be too awkward. The dude hasn’t freaked out completely from the state of things yet. It’s interesting the way Natsuo deals with his current situation and it interests me even more if he’ll end up with either girl or none, giving us a brutal ending. I see the potential of where this series can go to. It can turn into an interesting josei right now but we shall wait and see.
This week’s episode had a couple of surprises which were interesting but overall it was an okay episode. I went into this series with no expectations and I am going to keep it that way, as there is the potential for this series to be something good.
