We have reached the last stop of this love complex train trip and everything in this episode crashed badly. I am sitting here still trying to process the fast transition of events that took place. Domestic Girlfriend leaves it to the last episode to pull out all the serious moves, but it failed.
Japanese Original Title: ごめんね。愛してる
Hina and Natsuo’s secret relationship is found out by the school. Hina takes all the blame to spare affecting Natsuo’s future by transferring schools. She disappears without a word, leaving a heartbreaking letter for Natsuo which sends him into a depressive state. Rui and the others try to encourage Natsuo to snap out of it and Natsuo turns to writing as a way to get back on his feet. Suprisingly, it leads to positive changes.
Responsible Move: Hina made the only sensible choice by taking the fall for Natsuo to prevent it from affecting his future. It was only a slight redeem because it would take more for her to rectify her poor choices.
Control Who You Love: Hina sounded such a hypocrite to say, ‘You Can’t Control Who You Love’ to Kiriya. You can’t use such a poor statement to cover your terrible decisions, in this case Hina giving into her feelings for Natsuo. It’s true we cannot control whom we fall for but we can control our actions.
Pacing: This episode fast transitions from Natsuo’s heartbreak and getting over it to winning an award for his heartbroken novel and Rui making her move now that Hina and Natsuo are over. IT WAS RIDICULOUS to cover all of these events in the final episode. I was dumbfounded to the point of stupid. JUST LIKE THAT Natsuo gets over his heartbreak over the one he’s loved her for years? Winning an award for it was hysterical. It took a heartbreak for Natsuo to produce some good content. God it’s so laughable, but cherry on top, this was Rui’s chance make her move, now that sis is out of the picture. I was going WHAT THE HELL. Absolutely ridiculous.
Crap ending: Rui is free to pursue Natsuo now, and we see during the ending credits that Hina chopped off all her hair and lives a carefree life away from everyone. Utter crap way to end this season… don’t think for a second this series is over yet.
WE’RE AT THE END, yet I have the feeling this is not over… Do I sound happy? Well… it depends. This episode was such a joke; the fast pacing of events that transpired was just ridiculous, particularly the part Natsuo is supposed to get over Hina just with the snap of a finger. Writing down your feelings is a good way to get out what’s on your mind. But to write a novel then win an award for it was hysterical. I was laughing till I couldn’t breathe. I felt it was silly promoting the idea that to write something great you have to go through something tragic and sad. That was a huge tick off for me.
THEN, right at the end… that crappy ending. Rui decides to moves on Natsuo. Again, I couldn’t stop laughing that it ended on a dumbass note like that. I tell you this series was a complete trainwreck. You are so wrong if you assume it’s all over after how this episode ended. I’ll be waiting for a Season 2 announcement now. The manga is over 200 chapters, so what does that tell you!?
The attempt in the last episode for the series to be serious did not happen. You feel nothing for Natsuo and Hina’s ending bliss. In fact, I was relieved it was over. I felt nothing over Natsuo winning an award because his actions and ill decisions have made him look such a weakling. To feel any happiness for him in this episode would be a joke. From the beginning I’ve been saying I’m team trash Rui and still am, but it was so rushed to pin the whole ending on Rui pursuing Natsuo. It would have been better to end with Natsuo having some breathing space. But remember, this is a messed up love triangle. ‘Messy’ will be its standing out factor.
I won’t miss this series for a while.
Such A Happy Threesome
Am I going to miss this series? Oh, hell no. It’s been a frustrating yet entertaining time with Domestic Girlfriend. I fully knew what I was getting into at the beginning and I don’t regret it. But to end on such a crappy note is a tick off. Well you can look forward to more thoughts on my upcoming full review!!
Let’s say goodbye to this train wreck for now…
