We’re finally at the end, folks. Mamako’s group has caught up to Amante on the top floor of the dungeon. Only the victor will be rewarded a wish to grant any desire. Will Masato and Mamako be able to stop Amante from executing her dastardly plans? Find out in the final episode of Do You Love Your Mom and Her Two-Hit Multi Target Attacks?.
As Masato runs up the dungeon with his party, he winds up separated into another floor. Traps are laid out for him as Mamako clones try to eliminate him. Mamako comes to his rescue, and the party regroups at the top floor. Amante faces off with them and overpowers the group with a devastating reflector spell. She tells Masato that he should abandon his mother for stealing his spotlight and ruining his adventure in another world. Masato refuses, which inspires Mamako to gather all her power and defeat Amante in one hit. The blast opens the door to a wish-granting tablet and Amante runs towards it. Her plan is foiled when Masato abruptly wishes for a batch of eggs. Amante tumbles down the tower and Masato’s party are the victors. As they prepare for a new adventure, a glowing Mamako embraces her son as Masato reflects on everything he’s experienced so far.
Mom Says No!
The best way to end your anime is with a bang! Mamako unleashes a powerful ultimate move called ‘Mom Says No.’ This ability lets her shoot a potent hyper beam from her finger that basically ends her match with one zap. Mamako must have serious powers and I don’t think she’s reached her peak quite yet.
Masato and the Mamako Clones
The good news is that we get to see a bunch of Mamako clones. The downside: they’re all trying to kill you and it’s very scary. Masato learns this the hard way as he makes his way through the dungeon, but is thankfully saved by Mamako. If you wanted to see a yandere version of Mamako, you’re in for a treat.
The Mommy Guild Wins
With another quest under their belt, Masato and Mamako’s guild are bound to be on the right path. Shriase expects great things from them, much to Masato’s chagrin. The rebel group Ribele is sure to cross paths with them once again, but there’s a very strong chance the Mommy Guild will be victorious.
The final episode of Do You Love Your Mom ends the series the only way it can: with the power of moms. Masato’s journey with Mamako comes full circle in their confrontation with Amante, as he’s faced with a choice between ditching his mother and continuing to go on adventures with her. This is the biggest test he’s faced, considering the ups-and-downs he’s had with her. The motives of Amante and Ribele can greatly benefit Masato, but he’s learned and applied what he reflected on these couple of episodes to accept the absurd situation he’s in.
The final arc of the anime definitely leaves the door open for a potential second season, as Ribele is still at large and Mamako is proving to be an obstacle for them. Even as final battles go, this last episode didn’t feature much aside from Amante getting blasted by Mamako. The resolution is a predictable anti-climax set up a few episodes ago. Amante’s deviousness has proven that she can be more than a joke villain, but her tumbling down the dungeon stairs doesn’t help her case. Her personality isn’t changed by the end of the arc and is left unresolved as she regroups with the other Ribele members.
At the end of the day, I think Do You Love Your Mom will be remembered as a middle-of-the-road show with a unique mommy gimmick. There are a few comedic moments here and there and characters like Mamako and Shirase have gotten a chuckle from me a few times. Overall, it’s pretty hit-and-miss, and you’d have to be in on the joke to like the series.
The story does get somewhat tedious because of all its mother pandering, essentially overselling Mamako’s charms. Your enjoyment of the anime largely depends on how much you like Mamako, mom puns, fan service, and isekai parody series. Masato, Wise, and Medhi are great supporters in this cause. I laughed when I saw a giant statue of Mamako being built, with the rest of her party as small figures beneath her.
It’s not a perfect anime and will probably just miss my list of top five shows of the season. Despite that, I had fun writing about this crazy, stupid show about bonding with your mothers in a video game. Among a slew of isekai anime being made, Do You Love Your Mom will stand out based on its oddball premise alone.
In its own goofy way, I think this anime teaches us to appreciate the mothers in our lives. Granted, Mamako represents a high standard of mothers that probably don’t exist and people with their own tastes will definitely be charmed by her. Nevertheless, the question this anime poses in its own title will remain unanswered for now. For Masato, at least it’s looking like he’ll be appreciating her more from now on.
