Amante’s goal of recruiting adventurers to clear the dungeon hits a snag thanks to Mamako and her party. Perhaps sending a few assassins to their guild will stop them. Unfortunately for her and everyone else, she underestimates the power of a mom like Mamako. Let’s see what happens in the newest episode of Do You Love Your Mom.
Wise, Masato, Porta, and Medhi rush back to their guild to discover Mamako talking with a shady salesman. They shoo the guy away, only to realize that he left a bomb that cries like a baby. Mamako stops it from exploding by patting its head and realizes that it was all Amante’s doing. As Masato and the others have a picnic afterwards, Amante shows up to declare that she will wage war against them, but runs away as soon as she sees Mamako. When they all return to the guild, Amante’s helper, Pocchi, and two other mercenaries, threaten Mamako by saying they’ll detonate all the bombs planted around the town if she doesn’t service them. Sure enough, Mamako provides her custom mom service of fried rice with ham and tucks them in for bed. Realizing how much he misses his own mother, Pocchi apologizes and take the other two along to disarm the bombs. A furious Amante shows up uninvited as Masato and Mamako host a naked strategy meeting, swearing revenge for luring her best fighters away. Pocchi, his mother, and the rest of the mothers in town show up the next day to join Masato’s guild’s quest to the dungeon. However, several distractions hold them up. Amante awaits them and plans to blow up the first floor to bury the party. Unfortunately for her, she clumsily slips and activate all the bombs, blowing herself up instead.
Never Underestimate Maid Mamako
Even hard wired assassins are no match for Mamako’s mommy maid service. From preparing delicious fried rice to soothing them to sleep, it’s easy to see how Mamako’s charm wins them over. She also rocks the maid costume really well.
A Mom’s Love
The episode reminds us that mothers are important. With Mamako’s service, the assassins remember how their mothers took care of them by preparing lunches they refused. Seeing them all make up with them is a real joy to see. They do, however, slow down the journey to the dungeon, wearing out both Medhi and Wise’s magic. Good luck you two!
Amante Screws Up (Again)
Amante likes popping into scenes whenever she has the chance. Seeing her bump into Masato’s party by coincidence is quickly turning into a running joke, along with her tsundere personality. It’s also pretty funny seeing her fail at every attempt to thwart Masato’s party. To make things worse, Medhi’s callous comments towards her doesn’t help her cause.
As far as antagonists go, Amante is proving to be an incompetent but persistent personality in the way of Mamako’s Mommy Guild. She’s cautious whenever Mamako’s around and is aware of all the power she has. Considering she’s just one part of a group of villains, they must all share a distrust for mothers in particular. Did she have a falling out with her mother like Wise? Or does she harbor resentment like Medhi? We’ll most likely find out soon, as Masato’s group heads to the dungeon. Do You Love Your Mom has been consistent in demonstrating different mother-child conflicts and I expect some sort of resolution involving a lecture from Mamako. What Masato learns from this will reflect upon his character and the hard work mothers go through for their children.
The anime tries to highlight Mamako’s good points once again by having her in a maid costume. Aside from her mommy service moment, there’s nothing else she does really, except for rally all the mothers for the dungeon quest. There are little glimpses of her thinking about Masato first, such as when she was thinking of buying Masato a large crystal ball. We’ve already been hammered in the message that Mamako is too perfect for this world. She loves Masato 3000 and her two hit multi-target attacks will most definitely one-hit kill all her enemies. Since she and the others will be in a dungeon, let’s hope she does something different next time around.
One really weird moment I loved in the episode was when Mamako disarms a bomb by cradling it in her arms and patting it to sleep like a baby. The bomb makes a sound like a baby too and it’s so surreal to see every item in this game world is connected to motherhood. I’ve missed seeing these really perplexing scenes, and it’s great that the anime hasn’t forgotten about them and embraced its absurd premise. How Mamako and crew make things interesting down the stretch will determine how all of this ends.
Mamako leads a party full of moms into the dungeon to face off against Amante. There will be some trouble here and there, but I have high hopes that they’ll succeed. Next episode promises us a good fight and a bikini-clad Mamako as well. Let’s pray Masato doesn’t die of embarrassment once again.
What did you think of this week’s episode? Is Mamako still the best mom? Will Amante prevail against the Mommy Guild? Let us know in the comments and be sure to check our other Summer 2019 Anime Reviews on MANGA.TOKYO.
