This episode was weird, hilarious, and surprisingly kinky. For a romance series, Devil’s Line really goes all in with the sexual content, which makes this show unexpectedly interesting to watch.
Japanese Original Episode Title: オフライン
Tsukasa was saved by Anzai as she was falling off the window and she luckily avoided getting shot since the bullet hit the stun gun in her pocket. Tsukasa, Anzai, and Kleeman manage to escape from the hotel and they call the police but they don’t mention anything about Ushio. Tsukasa and Anzai then finally have ‘the talk’ and decide to start dating as a couple. Tsukasa moves in the bar so she can be protected by the police since her name and face has leaked into the media. As they go back to the bar, the doctor suggests they should start the ‘training’. Tsukasa and Anzai are asked to make out as they are being monitored by the doctors in the room next to them which leads to some really kinky stuff. Then, the doctor takes them to a hotel where he has to attend a conference giving them free tickets to go dine in the hotel’s restaurant. In the hotel, Anzai’s mom is actually one of the conference’s main speakers and they see each other without really realizing their relationship. His mom then goes to see his dad who is apparently locked up in ONLO (?) because he cannot control his inner beast.
She got shot: So Tsukasa managed to not get injured by a trained cop who shot her from a distance that was less than 3 feet. How could he have missed her heart and shot her stomach? This is ridiculous. Ushio you are a great cop, my friend.
Sniper-chan is nice now: So, she shot Makimura in order to save Anzai and Tsukasa and then gave them her blessing? Her change of heart was a bit too sudden. After shooting a human and a devil, she realized that there is no difference between it and probably recalled all the things Tsukasa said to her. Now, she is just a Sniper-chan that fights for justice.
Johannes is a foreigner: The anime hasn’t made it very clear, but Johannes is actually German and for the first time someone said something about it. When he went to play with the kids to give Anzai and Tsukasa some space, the kids said to him: ‘A foreigner?! Your Japanese is great!’ For some reason, I found that scene kind of funny.
The kinky scene: Alright, this scene is probably the most sexual and well performed making out scene that I have ever seen in a romance anime. The dynamic was so good and so realistic (well despite the nail protectors and the handcuffs) that I wondered if I was watching the beginning of a hentai. In other words, it was great. Although the scene of Tsukasa saying that his little yelp was cute when she touched his nipple was kind of cringe-y, the scene of Anzai masturbating in the bathroom and saying how he wants to be inside her, balanced things out. They try to make Tsukasa look all innocent and Anzai like a sex beast but to be honest after this scene I think Tsukasa is quite ‘thirsty’ as well.
Themes & Trivia
Tsukasa is thirsty after all: Apparently, there are a lot of scenes in the manga where Tsukasa has these very kinky and sexual dreams. It has been briefly shown in the anime, but she actually dreams about having ‘le sexy time’ with Anzai quite a lot. So, in this episode, when she gets all nice and hot, it’s pretty normal that she was super wet. Anzai is probably more innocent than she is.
Despite all the amazingness of that kinky scene, I have to say that the scene before it, where they talk about their relationship and kiss, was anticlimactic as f*ck. I mean come Devil’s Line, it’s a kiss scene! Yes, it’s not the first time they kiss but they finally decide to make it official and try and then you give us this half-assed kiss; what a let-down. Also, I really liked how Tsukasa was presented in that conversation with four adjectives: is she reliable, sincere, selfish, or just weird? I think she is a little bit of everything but it’s up to you to decide.
One more thing. I can’t stop singing the god damn opening of this anime. It was a silent niiiiight….
Anzai is a bigger perv than he lets on.
Like father like son, huh? So Anzai’s dad used to work in the police force and then he lost it and became a mass murderer? For some reason, I think that Kikuhara must have had something to do with it. Looking forward to seeing how the plot will develop in the next few episodes.
