Even though Devil’s Line started out a bit weird, I have to say that the final episode actually managed to bring the story to a conclusion. We were left with some question marks regarding the story and the police drama, but I hope that the couple will get through the hard times.
Japanese Original Episode Title: デビルズライン
Tsukasa, along with Lee’s help, tries to go to Anzai as fast as possible in order to save him. Sniper-chan fails to shoot Kikuhara as he manages to escape from the rooftop. Taira reaches Anzai and starts giving him her blood but the police forces have surrounded them and the rest of the team. Best-guy Lee reasons with the policemen to help them sedate Anzai for everyone’s safety, which they do and Anzai is saved. Lee takes Taira to the nearby ambulance where he is filmed saving a human, changing people’s perspective over the whole devils disaster. Anzai and Taira are both moved to the hospital to be treated, Sawazaki and Ishimaru are being transported to other squads and police departments, and the whole F squad is dissolved. After the latest incidents, Anzai is forced to retire from the force and he is not allowed to get close to Taira (his victim) for a while. The couple once again declares their love for each other and says their farewell for now but as the episode comes to an end we see them reuniting after a certain amount of time, showing that even after so long they can actually be together again.
Makimura is not dead: I am so glad that no one really died, especially Makimura, because he knew very important information that could help everyone out. He managed to survive and give this information to the police which will definitely put Kikuhara and the CCC in a difficult situation. Since I highly doubt that this anime will get a second season, there is only one way of finding out what’s going to happen: read the manga.
Who shot them? At first, I thought it was Sniper-chan but since it was clarified that it is not her, I have no idea who could it have been. Was it just a random sniper hired by Kikuhara or was it another member of CCC? Does it really matter at this point? I don’t really know…
Anzai’s father: Finally we got to learn his father’s backstory. So his mother fell in love with him when she met him as a devil, which makes the story a little bit weird. If she was harmed by devils and he tried to save her and went on a rampage then yes, great love story, poor guy, so much love, etc. But I think the author played out the story like this in order for it to be more relatable to Anzai and Taira, which was actually kind of smart. Kudos to you, dear author.
How long has it been since they haven’t seen each other? You would think that it has been years or so since they last saw each other hence to all the drama, but apparently, it has only been 10 weeks. Here is the manga page that mentions it.
Okay, can I just say that the anime is a bit too dramatic when it comes to hospitalization? I mean come on, does Taira really need an oxygen mask for a broken bone in her hand? Also, finally her friend managed to close her eyes and have a normal expression without looking like an insomniac freak or something.
F squad dissolving was the best ending for a great police drama. Because if you really think about it and you have watched a lot of police dramas, there is always the same conclusion: society sucks and will continue to do so forever. Nevertheless, I am actually quite surprised that this anime turned out to be more about segregation and racism rather than romance. It goes to show that some weirdly awkward couple scenes at the beginning of Devil’s Line shouldn’t prejudice fans to create an opinion for the whole anime.
Devil’s Line is definitely not the greatest anime romance you will ever watch but it is intriguing in its own uncooperative way. It has very interesting characters and a plot that could have been so much more. Still, this anime will stick with me for a while, especially the first kiss of Tsukasa and Anzai along with their making-out scene as the doctors were watching in the other room. Great stuff.
