Silver bells~ Silver bells~ It’s Christmas time in the city~ For the last episode of DAKAICHI it’s a christmas episode… yeah, a Christmas episode, just in time for the holiday season!
It’s Christmas time and Takato attempts to plan the best Christmas Eve date for himself and Junta. But, years of working through the holiday have left him with no good ideas. To make matters worse, Junta doesn’t even show up to their ‘date’?!
Holiday Special: It’s a bonafide Christmas special… Dakaichi style… The episode opens with Junta humming Jingle Bells and decorating a Christmas tree in his and Takato’s living room. Oh, and let’s not forget that they’re also planning what to do for their Christmas Eve date.
Another Ranking: There’s another special ranking in the Christmas issue of AniAni magazine, ‘The Guy Women Want to Spend Christmas With’. And just like the first ranking, Takato places second to Junta…
Newlywed Couple: The newlywed couple from the first episode make another appearance in this week’s episode. Both are still together and now sporting cute matching handknit scarves.
Jingle Bells: The song Junta is humming at the start of the episode is the popular Christmas carol, Jingle Bells.
Life imitates art: Takato decides to draw inspiration from his years of acting experience when coming up with the perfect Christmas Eve date for Junta.
I don’t know what I expected from this week’s episode. Usually the final episode wraps up an ongoing storyline, but they did that last week, so this was little more than a throw-away Christmas episode. But, I did like the fact that just about every character that appeared in the series managed to eek out a bit of screen time. Aside from that, there really isn’t much to talk about with this week’s episode, which is a shame since I really did enjoy the series as a whole. If anything, Episode 13 could have been an OVA or something.
There really isn’t all that much to say about this week’s Christmas themed episode. For a finale, this was kind of a let down, but, as a stand alone… one off story, episode 13 was a return to the lighthearted antics of the earlier episodes. If you were expecting DAKAICHI to go out with a bang, then you’ll be sorely disappointed. But, if you just want a bit of fun, episode 13 sure does hit the spot.
That’s it for DAKAICHI, but in the meantime, be sure to check out MANGA.TOKYO’s other amazing Fall 2018 reviews!!
