Are you feeling confused? Well, don’t worry because you are not alone. Boogiepop wa Warawanai might be getting a bit complicated at this point, but we will get the chance to understand everything soon.
Aya has successfully convinced Masaki to start going around disguised as Boogiepop and saving people from drugs and other shady activities. After keeping this charade for more than two weeks, she tells him that maybe it’s time to stop doing this, but he insists that he wants to carry on. Kinukawa Kotoe, who appears to be in love with her cousin Asukai Jin, is found by Spooky E who takes control of her by making her a ‘copy’ in order to discover more information about the Imaginator. She goes around asking people about him and after offering them a lot of money she tries to make up a team of people that would hunt him down. After trying to act like she is Aya’s friend and after suggesting that she wants to help them out with the whole Boogiepop charade, things turn out the way she, aka Spooky E, wanted since Masaki decides to keep being Boogiepop by his own volition.
Masaki get a clue: At this point I don’t really know if Aya is just following orders or if she is actually super thirsty all the time. Masaki is either a super nice guy or an idiot if he still doesn’t get the fact that she loves him and that she wants to get kinky (regardless of her orders, if you ask me).
Kinukawa Kotoe is lewd: So, it’s okay to be in love with your cousin but if Jin were to become her brother it wouldn’t be okay? What kind of logic is this? Girl, in both cases this kind of thing will end up in incest, but I am sure that at this point you have more serious problems to think about: like the fact that your dad’s bank account will be empty soon and he will be very mad or the fact that a creepy guy has just taken control of your own body and mind.
Spooky E is not part of Towa organization: So was he supposed to be working for them and now he has betrayed them or something like that? Is that what he meant by the end of the episode? Is he just using people that have been abandoned by the Towa organization to do his biddings? Is he trying to make more clones of himself and make more slaves? Is that what ‘copy’ and ‘terminal’ mean? Is he supposed to be the copy of an alien lifeform that we previously saw? What is the ‘spiked cream’ that he mentioned on the phone? Is it another drug? Why does he want synthetic humans to crossbreed with humans? What is his bloody motive and WHY DOES HE LOOK LIKE THAT? (I won’t stop mentioning his gross appearance until he dies, or this arc ends or whatever).
It pisses Spooky E: Okay, I don’t know if I got this right, but I am mentioning it here in case it can clarify some things for those who are super confused. It is safe to assume that Spooky E made a copy of himself into Kotoe. In the scene where Kotoe is acting all pissed to Aya about her being a synthetic human and not having intercourse with anyone can be explained with this: Spooky E wants to test if synthetic humans can crossbreed with normal ones but he doesn’t have any genitals to try it out himself, so he is pissed because his copy, Kotoe, which does have genitals, hasn’t had any successes, despite Camille vast count.
I am pleasantly lost and confused with this story and I think that so far the anime is doing a really nice job by keeping an overall nice pace and by exhibiting some interesting directing. It seems like we have seen all the sides of the story: Boogiepop, Towa aka Axis, Imaginator & Jin, and finally Masaki. I don’t know if the next episode will show us another character’s perspective but so far everything is quite intriguing.
It is certainly a hard show to follow on a weekly basis but I will admit that I enjoy it to the fullest and can’t wait to see how everything will connect at the end of the story.
At this point I won’t ask any questions or try to speculate what is going on because the mysteries are so many that I just find it worthless to even ponder on what might happen.
NEXT TIME: VS The Imaginator 5
Boogiepop is also part of our weekly previews. Check our preview for Episode 7 here.
