In this week’s episode of Ao no Exorcist – Ao no Exorcist: Kyoto Fujouou-Hen, be excited because you will get to know a lot of lovable characters that you’d probably only be able to meet in this season. I know you can’t wait to meet these cute girls and hot dudes, so let’s start with this week’s episode of Ao no Exorcist.
Japanese Title: 呉越同舟
Rin and the rest of the True Cross Order group safely arrives in Kyoto. At the train station, a man wearing a monk’s robe welcomes them. Who is this new character we meet right off the bat? Wait, why does it feel like he’s familiar to someone we know?
While the matter with Rin and the rest of the Exwires regarding him being the son of Satan hasn’t been resolved yet, the story proceeds to where the rest of this season will occur. Here are some of the episode highlights of what occurred in Episode 2 of Ao no Exorcist: Kyoto Fujouou-hen. Read on.
HIGHLIGHT #1: Going to Basecamp
The man who welcomed them upon their arrival to Kyoto introduces himself as Kinzo and he is supposed to be Shima’s brother. He acts like a tour guide to the group as they are riding the bus towards where the True Cross Order is staying during the mission.
Upon their arrival, Suguro is shocked to find out where they are staying. They are staying at his family’s inn! When he enters, every worker in the inn greets him immediately. Everyone calls him Bon and is pretty excited that he came back home. Even his mother comes out when Kin informs her about Suguro’s return. While it may seem that she is relieved to see her son after a long while, Suguro receives a chop on the head from her for dyeing his hair.
HIGHLIGHT #2: Helping Out
While Suguro, Shima, and Konekomaru (the families of these three live in Kyoto) are given time off to pay their respects to their respective families, the remaining Exwires are ordered by Shigure to help the injured. While Kamiki and Shiemi are given tasks such as boiling water or dressing the wounded, Rin is told to do something else. Basically, he is subtly thrown out of the medical bay. Poor him! It’s surely due to the fact that his lineage is already exposed.
HIGHLIGHT #3: Chrome Dome
As Rin is walking around the inn without anything to do, a bald old man wearing a slightly different version of Kin’s monk robe pops out and asks him to slice watermelons and deliver them to the injured people in the inn. They got acquainted with each other. When Rin introduces himself, the old man’s expression seems to indicate that he knows who Rin is. The old man, on the other hand, introduces himself as Suguro’s dad, much to Rin’s surprise. They end up talking a lot of things with each other.
HIGHLIGHT #4: Internal Squabbles
It seems that there is internal squabble inside the Myoda Sect. Even when injured, they end up squabbling with each other. Starting from a war with words, things escalates quickly to summoning familiars and chanting spells. When it seems that other people would get dragged into the fight, Suguro comes out and diffuses the situation.
HIGHLIGHT #5: Suguro and Dad
Suguro, despite showing such antagonistic attitude towards his father, still genuinely cares for him. In this episode, many flashbacks about Suguro’s past occur. We get a glimpse of how their Myoda Sect slowly lost their parishioners and members, how his father is now being called a degenerate priest, and how he decided to leave home and study in the True Cross Order Academy.
HIGHLIGHT #6: Patching Things Up – Shima
It is actually surprising that the first person, aside from Kamiki, who Rin will patch things up first would be Shima. After all, Shima seems to be that lackadaisical side character who only tags along with Suguro. However, he proves once again how he isn’t as uptight as Suguro and Konekomaru by getting along once again with Rin first.
HIGHLIGHT #6: Getting Duped
Yukio, who left with another team to pursue the criminal from the previous episode, is mortified that he was duped. The criminal in question, while far away from where Yukio was, is talking with someone on the phone. Is the other person an accomplice?
Themes & Trivia
The people in Suguro’s inn calls him ‘Bon.’ This is because he is the ‘bon-bon’ or the ‘young master of an inn.’ Another naming to take note of is how Suguro calls his dad, ‘hage daruma.’ It is loosely translated to English as ‘chrome dome.’
There isn’t much action in this episode. That can be forgiven since the story is still setting itself up. I’m still looking forward to the next episode of Ao no Exorcist: Kyoto Fujouou-hen.
In the next episode, it seems that a traitor will be weeded put. Who is this traitor and what is his goal? Find out with me here in MANGA.TOKYO!
