It feels like it was just yesterday when the Black Bulls defeated Vetto, yet another threat popped up right after they got back! Black Clover really knows how to keep the audience invested by amping things up to another level, huh? And to think this was supposed to be the final episode of the season!
Japanese Title: 正しさの証明
The Black Bulls have returned to their base after a successful mission. For most of them, they could enjoy a nice break till their next mission, but for Yami and Asta, they had to immediately head to the Wizard King to report! While there, Marx suddenly interrupted their proud and heartwarming exchanges, notifying Julius that an army from the Diamond Kingdom came to attack one of their border cities.
Gordon’s woes: When will Gordon ever have friends? They only remembered that he wasn’t with them all throughout the mission when they got back from it! Or to be more specific when they saw him moping in the corner. Poor guy! Hopefully, he’ll get his chance in the spotlight, and gain friends who will understand his mumbling someday soon. I feel like I’ve been saying this a lot already, though.
Visit to the Wizard King: It was super nice to see Julius again; he even went nerd on Yuno’s wind spirit and had a funny reaction to Asta’s request! But more than those, I loved the exchange he had with Yami. It was basically like a continuation of when Julius first gave the order to retrieve the magic stone. Julius looked back on when he recruited Yami as a Magic Knight, then made him a captain, a parallel to Yami’s recollection previously. It was also really amazing that Yami indeed proved that Julius didn’t make a mistake in promoting him to captain. He said this back then, after telling him to just give the order, and I didn’t think too much about it. But now that he came back with great results, it made such an impact to me! This got me seeing them as a father-son duo even more now! (Especially since Yami’s only 28, but I still find that hard to believe given that the guy’s that manly as heck.)
Attack on the border: Going by the alarmed reactions to three of the Eight Shining Generals leading the attack, and by how unprepared the defenders of Kiten were, it seemed like this was the first time the Clover Kingdom encountered a threat that big! Fortunately the Golden Dawn came to back up the town fast, and they seemed to be more than enough reinforcements! They even had William with them, which is a sufficient assurance that everything will be alright, not only because he’s a captain, but because he’s the top candidate as the next Wizard King! Then again, I still don’t really trust him, and it looked like Yami had some thoughts on him, too. On another note, Finral’s brother, Langris (which was introduced in his flashback) finally got introduced properly! I wonder what his magic and skill level is.
Yuno and Bell: The full Golden Dawn uniform looks so good on Yuno! I’m glad we got to see him again, and more badass than before! He easily swept away that powerful general with just one spell, and he didn’t even need Bell’s help for it, even though she’s one of the Four Great Nature Spirits. Speaking of which Bell’s personality totally wasn’t what I was expecting! Up until now we’ve seen her sleepy, or quiet, or meek, and then here she was now, (one-sidedly) bickering with Yuno, and even somehow flirting with him! I wish we got to see how their relationship became like this! If not though, then I hope we at least see more of their tandem. Put Yuno in the spotlight some more, please!
Border town: Just as we’ve seen with Kiten, border towns in real life are prone to international conflicts. However, for those in countries at peace with each other, they can be a good place to experience different cultures and traditions all at once.
I still feel like things moved on quickly from the Underwater Temple incident though maybe it’s because war doesn’t wait for anyone? Asta didn’t even get a chance to recover yet, but the boy really doesn’t know when to give up. I’m also curious on what will happen to this invasion. Unlike most of the previous arcs, there was a goal to tell us what could happen. Here however, where will successfully defending their kingdom lead to? Knowing this show, lots of surprises wait for sure!
The fourth cour officially ends here, which is where Black Clover should have stopped at if it hadn’t been decided that it will keep going. So fortunately for us fans, we’ll still have a lot more of Asta and Yuno’s adventures to look forward to! However, this episode is where I will leave you guys, unfortunately. I want to follow a new adventure for the Fall 2018 season. Hope you can join me there, too!
There’s still one review for Black Clover that I have to write though: a series review! Please look forward to it! Don’t forget to share your thoughts on this episode, and read the rest of our Summer 2018 reviews, especially for the ones that have and are ending!
