I honestly didn’t think I’d be this grateful for a breather in Black Clover! Kinda feels like I’m one of the Black Bulls members who had been so stressed these past few episodes. But now that the fight’s over, I can heave a sigh of relief at last. Whew!
Japanese Title: 戦いの果て 絶望の終わり
Yami had victoriously dealt the finishing blow to defeat Vetto once and for all, which meant that the Black Bulls beat the game of the Underwater Temple and defended the people in it! With that, they’ve snagged the magic stone that the terrorist group needed and thwarted their plans. Before they could get back to the surface and report back to the Wizard King however, they first needed to recuperate from their hard battle.
Mission accomplished! The Black Bulls flocking to Yami and expressing their admiration was like watching little chicks flocking to their mother! Then running away when said mother got angry. So cute and funny! I just love them to bits! What’s more, they’re not only likeable, but they also succeeded in the Wizard King’s secret mission. When the High Priest said he didn’t know what a magic stone was though, I thought the Black Bulls and the Eye of the Midnight Sun fought for nothing! I was about to be pissed! Thankfully Nero was there to save the day! Since he was the one who brought the stone from Saussy Village as well, he’s like their own magic stone detector, huh?
Promises and crushes: I’m happy that Noelle and Kahono became such good friends, but I’m also sad! Kahono’s the first female friend Noelle has, but she lives far away! At least they have such a nice promise to help them remember each other, and to keep giving hope to Kahono’s dreams. Not only hers, but Kiato’s dream to dance again as well! I wasn’t expecting him to end up liking Noelle! Then again, since she’s now dubbed their sea goddess, I guess it shouldn’t be that surprising. It was so funny when he winked at her, but she was confused on who it was aimed at! Even the part when Kahono said that her friend’s probably not available; she knows what’s up! Anyway, it’s so nice that Noelle has technically become the inspiration for two dreams.
Unforgiveness: Asta’s really amazing, despite having a one-track mind and often being seen as an idiot. Normal people would have a lot of resentment for an enemy who hurt so many and threatened many more. But rather than spitting on Vetto’s corpse or badmouthing him, he empathized with him and the rest of the terrorist group. Even I didn’t think of Vetto being in despair, only covering it up with his hatred for humans. I wonder if Yami understood this as well, given his reaction to Asta’s words. Plus, he was the first one who showed respect for his opponent, which makes him amazing too.
Misfit heroes: For me, the best part of this episode was the Black Bulls getting praised by the underwater people, then Finral noting the surprising situation. I’m a sucker for underdogs getting appreciated, that’s why I was super touched! They’ve always been looked down on for being the disaster squad, but here they were treated as heroes! The people even asked them to visit again and sang a song for them as they went home! I hope they won’t be asked to keep this mission a secret and that they’ll be greatly rewarded for this, so they can flaunt around their achievement! Go, Black Bulls!
Yubikiri: Most of us are probably familiar with pinky promises, which is what Noelle and Kahono did when they made their promise. But did you know that in Japan, children have a unique, and kind of odd, way of doing this? While linking their pinkies together, they sing a song called Yubikiri, which says that if they break the promise, they’ll drink a thousand needles and cut their finger. Kid songs are weird.
This is probably one of the nicest epilogue episodes of Black Clover I’ve seen, though it might be the hangover from the recent events speaking. Getting to see the Black Bulls united and fighting side by side, the heartwarming theme of reaching for your dreams though despair’s in the way, the ragtag bunch becoming heroes, I just loved the arc so much! And this was the perfect ending to it all. Sadly, the animation quality dropped compared to last week’s (Did you notice the glitch with Magna’s glasses while he’s wiping his tears?), but the events and feelings of this episode was more than enough to cover for it.
The preview showed people who look like they’re from the Diamond Kingdom, which made me curious what they’re up to! It certainly smells like a new arc is about to start. Exciting, right?
Let us know what you thought about this closing for the Underwater Temple Arc in our comments section! There’s only more than a week left for September, so the Summer 2018 shows are starting to wrap up! If you haven’t caught up with our other reviews, better get to it now!
