Is it because Yami’s the one involved? Is that’s why the episodes that should be incredibly serious turned out funny? It makes the dungeon exploration and capital riot arcs of Black Clover seem way terrible in comparison! However, I also can’t help but imagine if this battle with Licht still isn’t the main event…
Japanese Title: 裁きの光
Yami and Asta survived the cave collapsing on them, so the battle wasn’t over yet! It was Licht vs. Yami once again, while Asta was tasked to finally take care of Valtos using the new technique his captain taught him. By the end of it all, Licht was so done that he finally decided to use his trump card: an attack that threatened to be so powerful, Yami and Asta were at a loss on how to escape it!
The battle continues: I thought Yami couldn’t get any cooler, but then he kept catching Licht off guard and even wounded him badly! Licht owed it to Yami’s dark magic being the natural enemy of his light magic, but I think it’s really because Yami’s strong! He was even put on par with the Wizard King in terms of managing to deal damage to Licht! Speaking of which, sorry guys. I was asking in my last review what was up with Licht’s bandaged hand, but it was actually the hand that aged fast thanks to Julius’ time magic. Since that was the only damage the Wizard King managed to deal to Licht, does that mean Yami is stronger than the Wizard King himself? Or maybe it’s just because Licht is out to kill Yami and Asta this time, and he was running away from Julius before.
Asta vs. Valtos: The fight between these two made me laugh so hard again! Because Valtos kept underestimating Asta, he got caught by surprise! Well, even I wouldn’t have thought of playing the bait while waiting for an opening, but Asta went outside the box! Or more like inside the portal, then out to punch Valtos straight in the face! It goes to show that a wild but effective strategy will always be far better than just being powerful or skilled. Seems like Asta’s learning more and more how to fight better, huh? Actually, my heart was super crying when Fuegoleon’s and Yami’s figures appeared as he was thinking of what to do! You could really see how much he looked up to both of them, one who taught him how to stay calm, and the other who taught him how to move.
Unleashing the ultimate attack: Instead of being the most serious part of the episode, this scene just became another hilarious highlight! I mean, just with Licht threatening Yami and Asta repeatedly that they should be scared because they won’t survive it, you’d think he would’ve rained down his powerful judgment on them immediately, but it took sooo long! It reminded me of those turn-based final boss fights where it takes the enemy some turns to prepare his greatest attack, which just allows the player to prepare against it! I’m actually surprised Yami didn’t just opt to skedaddle! I also laughed at how Asta was rooting so hard for his boss. I couldn’t help but be reminded of a minion (no, not the yellow freaks); you know, like those low-ranking thugs. But then suddenly, Yami said they really wouldn’t be able to survive it, plus he didn’t work out a solution immediately! Leaving how he’ll handle such a huge problem to his 5-seconds-into-the-future self, Yami was such a big mood! I laughed so hard at that! On a scale of 1 to Yami, how lazy and apathetic are you? Then again, now I realize that he was hoping for Gauche to come back all along. Talk about trust!
She’s safe: Sister Theresa’s still alive! I really thought she kicked the bucket after she gave Gauche her magic. I already had my hands on my face! Then I noticed that the healers didn’t react nor stop healing her, so I thought the animators made a mistake. But she was still actually alive! I’m so, so glad! It really did end up like Fuegoleon’s case again!
More reinforcements! Aww, I’m so proud of Gauche now, too! A few episodes ago, he only cared about his sister’s well–being, but now he willingly went back to save his captain and colleague! That moment when he quickly came to their aid and reflected Licht’s super powerful attack so easily, it was awesome! Somehow it felt like Sister Theresa, Neige, and the children were all with him then, thanks to sharing their magic with him. Licht never saw that one coming at all! However, by the end of the episode, looks like more enemies are incoming. I wonder how they’ll react once they see their leader defeated on the ground.
Black hole:If you’re wondering why Yami’s Black Hole attack stopped Licht’s movements and turned his light whip black, then you need to brush up on your space facts! A black hole has such an immense gravitational force that nothing can escape from it, not even light! Anything that falls into it also seems to slow down, then ‘freeze’ in time.
Aside from the hilarity that ensued which made the whole episode totally enjoyable to watch, the fight scenes were way better this time than the previous one, personally speaking. I loved the small details they put in some sequences, both in the animation and the story! I was definitely hooked from start to finish, and I couldn’t help but be excited about the next part!
Licht got a taste of his own medicine thanks to Gauche’s reflecting magic; is he finally defeated? What about his three allies, whose turn has come? Once again, we have to wait!
