The other mixer: Suddenly seeing Sekke participating a mixer as well, and then realizing it was also going terribly awkward, I wondered if there should be a contest between his and Finral’s tables. Not to mention that, even if he was already trying so hard to snag a girl by telling lies, the girls still didn’t want to be there! I laughed so hard when Noelle shot Sekke with her water magic and the girls just gave their sign of approval! With their poker faces, too, when their whole gathering was ruined by Asta’s fight! So funny!
Hitting it off? Out of everyone, I couldn’t believe Asta emerged the winner! (Well, technically.) I was glad that, eventually, the girls found things to like in Finral and Luck (I have the same exact sentiments as Helene on what she thought of him), but wasn’t surprised they still got shot down! With Asta, though, who’d have thought he’d actually connect with the most snobbish girl in their table! She really did give off the vibe of not wanting to be there, but I wasn’t expecting that she just did it for her siblings! And yet, she was the one who wound up with a crush! Given that they were in the same boat, and he showed her his manly, good side by protecting her, it’s no wonder! Unfortunately for her, and Noelle, our protagonist is still totally devoted to Sister Lily! Oh, I hope Noelle doesn’t get her expectations too high! She ended up misunderstanding what Asta said!
Themes & Trivia
Goukon: This is the group dating in Japan, where a set of guys and gals meet together and try to build a good relationship. But the goal, as you’ve seen, is usually to get a girlfriend or boyfriend. This might’ve already sounded familiar to a lot of you, especially since this type of date often appears in romance anime or manga.
How to impress a person: Despite all the hilarity that ensued in this episode, I managed to pick up a neat lesson from it! Relationships are really all about being connected in your interests and experiences, not just about impressing the other party. There’s nothing wrong with the latter, but if we stay true to ourselves like what Asta did, there’ll be a person who will connect with us eventually! And we won’t need to try so hard to impress them!
There were just so many things that excited me in this episode! For one, I was stoked with the new opening and ending sequences, but mostly the opening. Getting a glimpse of what’s to come is always such a treat! And, of course, as you may have noticed from my review, I just really enjoyed the whole chaotic breather we got!
I also appreciated that the girls they featured were all working girls standing on their own two feet, who didn’t settle just because the men were Magic Knights! Meanwhile, seeing Noelle’s cute, tsundere side again was a delight, though I hope her stronger, independent qualities will still always shine the most. As she continually realizes that she does like Asta, I want her to grow more as well, enough for Asta to notice her himself because she was becoming a super dependable fighter on her own!
Getting a girlfriend is so hard!
Going by the preview, Asta continues focusing on getting even stronger! His ultimate goal is not to get a girlfriend, after all, but to become the Wizard King! Well, become the Wizard King, then marry Sister Lily.
