Anyone’s peaceful day off would definitely be ruined if they suddenly encountered a criminal! In Black Clover this week, we find out what Asta and Sekke did to apprehend him! Plus, someone we haven’t seen for quite a while (and I honestly missed a whole lot) finally makes an appearance once again: Yuno!
Japanese Original Episode Title: 魔法帝は見た
A thief stole the (gambling) old lady’s money, which was honestly not surprising, given that she’s on the Black Market, and she was lugging around a hefty bag full of it! It’s just fortunate that Asta and the others were there to save the day! However, that old lady didn’t seem like just any other obaa-san!
Moving on to another side of the story, we see our other protagonist caught up in his own mission! It’s Yuno’s time to shine once more!
Catching a thief:Asta’s so hardcore!! His physical prowess and parkour skills really are amazing! Even though he was only running, he was able to keep up with the thief and stop him with his anti-magic sword! On the other hand… I wholeheartedly agree with Vanessa and Noelle. The design of Sekke’s ride was LAME!!!! You could just imagine my face when I saw it! Putting that aside, didn’t the guy give up pretty easily? Normally, you’d get desperate to look for ways to save yourself, right? I mean, he was only stabbed in the foot! I know the poison would have had anyone alarmed because of the paralysis (which was also lame of the thief, by the way), but Sekke could’ve asked Asta to get him some help. Instead, he already passed on his dying wish, and while that’s a good sign he already views Asta in a much better light… dude, are you that unhappy? He just ended up as the comic relief again, looking pathetic. Ah well, good thing he’s alive, and he’ll get some glory for handing in the thief. Now, some character development is in order. I hope what Asta said to him got drilled into his head!
Old lady?Asta would probably freak out if he found out that it was the Wizard King himself whom he helped! That’s amazing! I’m really so happy for him! Now he’s on Julius’ radar. Well, to be specific, his unique ‘magic’ is, although we don’t know yet if that’s a good or a bad thingsince we don’t know much about the big boss. Is he really just a magic nerd (I mean enthusiast) because he’s passionate about them? Or is there some underlying plot he’s preparing for? After all, just the fact that he has the power to disguise himself says quite a bit of what kind of character he is, even if it’s so he can roam around incognito. Or maybe I’m just paranoid. Well, whatever the case, he’s a pretty interesting character for sure, especially since he’s currently the most powerful mage.
Yuno’s first mission:I’ve been waiting for this! Yuno’s turn in the spotlight!! I was so excited when it seemed like this won’t be just a passing screentime! Aside from also being noticed by the Wizard King, he also finally got his first mission! It’s something simple as a bodyguard duty though, and it’s for the pompous idiot he defeated in the exam (how surprising that he didn’t get even one offer, unlike Sekke!). To top it off, the senpai going with him is another jerk, the one who ‘welcomed’ him into the squad! Well, at least his other companion and fellow newbie, Mimosa, seemed nice. Also, the whole mission doesn’t feel like it’s JUST a bodyguard duty. Klaus’ wary thoughts gave it away, and I, too, noticed that the bandits Yuno fought didn’t seem to target Salim at all. Our prodigy defeated them easily, though, but it’s still too early to celebrate.
Back at the church: Another thing that makes the whole mission so weird was that Salim was a bit too fixated on Yuno. Sure, he gave the reason of wanting to know about the future Wizard King who beat him but to go so far as to visit where he lived – which was out of the way, while they’re in the midst of danger – a whole lot of question marks can’t help but pop up. Ah well. At least Yuno got to visit his family again and catch up with them. They can all relax for the moment, too.
Themes & Trivia
Harmless lady disguise:Julius, the Wizard King, fits this trope quite well in this episode! Since an old lady is seen as weak and frail, no one would guess she’s the guy in the most coveted position! Although, he may not always be disguising as that old lady, so maybe the King Incognito trope would fit him better, as he mentioned he can’t stop wandering around in disguise to search for other unique magic.
Huzzah! I’m super-duper happy that this episode was finally more than what I expected! And no, I didn’t set the bar lower, nor is it because Yuno’s in it (that was a bonus)! Everything in this episode just made me quite excited for more! The comedic, serious, and mysterious parts were all nice, especially the ones featuring the Wizard King, and the ominous nature of the Golden Dawn trio’s mission. There were also a bunch of events that made me feel like some characters would get better eventually, like with Sekke and Klaus. I do hope I’m right!
Ominous clouds loom overhead
I hope the Golden Dawn trio enjoy their short time of rest because that dark cloud above the church didn’t look too good! I also hope that no one in the orphanage would get hurt! Eep!
