It seems like the crew of Astra and Polina are not from different planets but from different eras. What is going on here? Let’s find out in Episode 10 of Astra Lost in Space.
The plot thickens as the crew is trying to unravel the mystery behind their, what seems like a godsend miracle now, struck of luck. They know why they were sent to die but had no clue where the wormhole spit them out and why there was a spaceship there. The Arc was part of a space fleet created to transfer humanity to a new planet. Earth was bound to be hit by an asteroid big enough to send it to a new ice age. The colonization was successful, and Astra was the new planet. As the two crews compare their histories to find the truth behind this unusual situation, they discover that while they share a similar history up until the Cuban Missile Crisis, Astra’s history diverts from that point as 1963 was the beginning of World War III, a massive nuclear holocaust that brought the creation of a World Govenment and the abolition of countries and religion. They also assume that the planet they found the Arc VI is Earth, now an ice planet. They can safely deduct that 6 years, from 2049 to 2057, is not enough time for a planet to be colonized and for the previous era to be considered the OLD ERA, but they have not yet concluded the obvious: they are either being lied to or the calendar started again on the day they colonized Astra and now it is 2057 years AFTER Earth was hit by the asteroid.
Part 2 takes us back to a plot point I had honestly forgotten about: the killer. It seems that Kanata was able to deduce who the killer was by going through past events step by step. Charce was the enemy, even after an episode was used as a diversion to take our minds off those who got more screen time and a sad story. We get a first explanation why Charces was ready to die to complete his mission but not nearly enough.
Astra: So, they named their spaceship after their home planet, but they didn’t bother mentioning that? Convenient.
Time: Polina has probably been sleeping for a very long time. This is not hard science fiction, so I don’t want to hear anything about power sources.
Wormholes: For the evil parents, this is probably an ancient technology that was brought back to serve their purposes. Now it makes sense why the wormhole took them back to Earth, but not why it was chasing them around.
Language: If my hypothesis is correct, then it wouldn’t make sense that they would speak the same language after two thousand years. I have to remind myself that this is not hard science fiction.
Technology: The same goes for technology. If this is two thousand years in the future, how is Arc still a revelant technology they can use?
Love: Kanata and Aries are the best couple. They are so cute together. And they share a very strong memory. They are perfectly matched.
So the King of that backwater country wants to live forever? Who wouldn’t. That doesn’t explain why Charces was willing to die to complete this mission. We will learn more about it in Episode 11 of Astra Lost in Space.
