As Miss Beelzebub Likes Episode 8 is filled with cute stuff as always and nobody goes to the beach. After last week’s episode, where the fanservice was strong, I thought this week might be once again a bit more meaningful and guide us to something like a story that goes beyond ‘omg Beelzebub is so cute’. However, I might think back to all the previous episodes and might have to see that this whole series is a single piece of fanservice? At least this episode once again made me feel warm and fuzzy, but left me feeling that they lost a story that this anime never had in the first place.
Japanese Title: かわいいって言いたい。/ 海に行こう。(Kawaii tte iitai. / Umi ni ikou.)
It might be just me (I didn’t get to check the older episodes) but I think this was the first time Azazel spoke properly? In his mind at least. I think I heard him talk for the first time and that was a highlight for me. Sorry if they already had him think aloud previously. Still, his voice is a pleasure so it still was a highlight to hear his rare words.
It was ridiculous, but she is so cute… How she worries she might not fit in. I get that feeling, but still, it’s a cafe. You pay for food and nobody cares what you look like. Fans are fans. But I am glad she got to spend some time with Azazel and see that she should just be herself. It also made me appreciate the fact that Azazel is able to accept himself like that. No more hiding the fact that he likes fluffy, cute things (like pretty much everybody in this anime!)
Her love for Azazel is too cute. Her reasoning is faulty, but it makes her so much cuter. Her argument that a bikini is showing off too much skin and then you look at her, exposing her belly with her uniform all the time… I am glad they made fun of it at the end and had Gocchin explain that Adrammelech made her this outfit so she had to wear it. Also that she fainted in the process and how she is able to talk to him without peeing all the time… I liked that everything came together here!
This felt a whole lot like the previous episode with the onsen. Heavily fanserviced and not really meaningful, especially since we didn’t even get Mullin to stress out over the girls at the beach, playing the mother hen and protecting them. At least Adrammelech was there so I was happy with the scene. He brightened up the scene with his succubus assistant.
Too cute! Her Highness calls him over just to check out the bikini and he thinks it’s some kind of emergency. Shy Mullin is my favorite Mullin. When he covers his face… More, please. <3
During the cafe scene, Azazel and Sargatanas had a really cute scene together where he explained why he was dressed so well. It might have sounded cheesy, how he said that their favorite character would be happy to see how they put in effort and how nice they were. In the end, this scene made me think about fan culture as how I have seen it the first time I came to Japan.
It was a mini live event to promote a CD of a pop group. They sang two songs, talked a bit and then every fan who bought the CD was able to get a high-five from the members. I stayed back to watch until the very end, until they went offstage, like many other fans. The magic happened when it was over. As soon as they were off stage fans took a step back and looked on the ground around them. Everybody started to pick up trash and made sure the venue was left clean. Because the fan’s reputation would eventually become the group’s reputation. It still is like that. During events everybody is very respectful, nobody will shove or push you to get closer to the stage and even if fans wait in line for some time, you will hardly find any rubbish around and they will make sure they aren’t too loud if there are people living in the area. Everything to support their group!
I think this series is super cute. I love the characters. I will recommend this to anybody who says they like cute anime. I just wish there was even the slightest bit of story to it. Having Mullin and Beelzebub get together as much as get all the other couples together for example would be a good story. It’s just that I know anime and they never ever get the couples together in a way that I would consider proper. This episode once again showed no getting closer of Mullin and Beelzebub at all, with how he stared at her in her bikini and both of them just got red. Come on, Beelzebub, give us something better than that! Let’s see some progress in the relationship! I guess we’ll have to see how much more we’ll get from all the couples in the future.
NEXT: They Pass Each Other by Sometimes / I had a Dream
