The anime season is ending and it’s time to say goodbye to As Miss Beelzebub Likes. This series was a delight to watch until the last episode. The way things have ended makes me wonder if the producers want to keep a door open for a possible OVA or even another season, if the manga material provides enough stories. Let’s see how this last episode was.
Japanese Title: 閣下の心、近侍知らず。/ その気持ちの名前は。 (Kakka no kokoro, kinji shirazu. / Sono kimochi no namae wa.)
For the first part of the episode, we follow the dramatic rescue mission of an unraveled knitted sweater Beelzebub has received from Mullin in Episode 1. Adrammelech to the rescue!
In the second part of the episode, it’s springtime and most of the offices have a hanami – a gathering under the cherry blossom trees, where they drink and enjoy their time with their teammates. Beelzebub is sad because she never experienced a gathering like that so her friends step in to make it happen! With all the main characters gathered, many old stories are being dragged out and some characters form a tighter friendship. Others just enjoy their time off and Beelzebub and Mullin seem to grow closer to each other.
I want to see so much more of Dantalion. He is hands down my favorite character, say whatever you want. I can relate to him so much and I adore him nearly as much as Eurynome, even if I do it in a way less creepy way. He is my spirit animal. Sleep and books, that’s my kind of life!
Once more, I feel in love with Adrammelech. When I thought the last episode was already the maximum I could like this character, he sweeps in and me off my feet once more! I loved how he knitted and how understanding he is of Beelzebub. I guess that’s a necessity to work with someone with her and a given if you’ve worked so long with her as he did. I adored the scene with him.
He tries so hard to understand Beelzebub. And she makes it so hard for him to do just that. But that’s also what makes me like him so much. When he is flustered and confused because he doesn’t understand what is going on with Beelzebub is when I like him most. So luckily this episode had a lot of that!
I loved that all the characters were there in the episode to just enjoy their time. Mullin and Beelzebub showed off why they are such a good couple when they were running around that tree and trying to catch a petal to make a wish. They were cheesy and cliche and sweet. Gocchin did seem to make progress with Azazel, too. I hope he will fall in love with her and realize her feelings for him and then help her out. He was such a good emotional help for Sargatanas, so I hope he can become just that for Gocchin as well.
This is a personal rant and also my personal take on what I think will happen in the future and has nothing to do what will actually happen.
Does this series need a second season? It definitely does! Because there is nothing, I repeat, N-O-T-H-I-N-G, resolved in this series. None of the couples have said anything or done anything or gotten any kind of closure. There were some cute scenes and the whole series in general does a good job in getting you interested in its characters. But then nothing seems to follow, like with so many other cute, comedy-romance stories. It just stays dispensed in the air and is left hanging because there will never be a second season. So for this series, I am also pretty sure there won’t be any follow-ups in form of a second season. If sales go well there might be an OVA with another story of everyday life featuring all the characters, but I guess that’s about it.
I’ll be back with a series review soon and before that I’ll also be starting reviews for The Price of Smiles (Egao no Daika). It’s not a romance anime this time but it features cool mechas and cute girls! The series is the 55th anniversary project of Tatsunoko Production, so I am looking forward to jump into a new kind of genre. Until next time!
