Zack won’t stop shedding blood, Danny is back for real, Gray is making his move, and Rachel starts showing feelings. I don’t know if I would describe this episode of Angel of Darkness as heartbreaking and emotional or just a little bit dull and repetitive.
Zack wakes up and finds Danny in front of him. He reveals to him that he survived due to wearing body armor but he was not unscathed from his attack either. Danny then offers to give him medicine if he agrees to bring Rachel’s eyes to him but Zack refuses to do so and Danny takes his leave. Rachel and Gray reach Zack’s floor and Rachel rushes her way to his room where she finds the knife he asked for but also realizes after observing the room, that she knows nothing about him. When they return to Gray’s floor, Zack is no longer there and Gray starts questioning Rachel’s motives and accuses her of bringing nothing more than misfortune to those around her. She then runs away from Gray while seeing a hallucination of a giant snake chasing her. She finds Jack and they decide to follow Danny’s trail in order to get his medicine. Later on, they are attacked by the giant snake forcing Zack to fight and worsening his condition even further. Rachel decides to go find Danny by herself and Zack gives her his knife.
Danny is still alive: At first, I was questioning everything about him and how he got away with that fatal injury but apparently, he is wearing a body armor so that was the reason why. Still, all that blood on his clothes and on the floor of his operating room is being exaggerated a bit. Even if he was wounded somewhere around the armor there is no way that he got blood like that everywhere. First Zack and now Danny, it is clear that the characters in Angels of Death have a lot of blood to spare just for the sake of drama.
Zack is such a sweetheart: When Rachel came in shocked, blubbering shit about a giant snake he just said to her, ‘You are freaking me out’, which I found hilarious. Later on, when they were talking about Danny he didn’t mention about him wanting to gauge her eyes out and just said ‘Nothing you need to worry about.’ Such a sweet guy. I mean I don’t think that anyone would have told her that, but given their circumstances, I think it was kind of cute.
Rachel is starting to lose it: I think that the guilty trip with Gray is starting to get to her. You can see that she is starting to get worried and slowly losing hope. You can definitely see it later on as well when Zack tells her that God doesn’t exist. She is almost ready to cry, and bloody hell, that smile made me feel so uncomfortable that I shiver every time I think about it.
Are Rainbow Fruitarinos supposed to be a reference to Froot Loops? Nicely done, Angels of Darkness. Also, if you noticed, he was not eating the cereals with milk but with coke. Poor guy.
The Giant Snake: Serpents have always been considered a bad omen since the beginning of time and there is no doubt that the symbolism at this point of the story is here to enhance Rachel’s inner thoughts. Serpents are referred to in both the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament. The symbol of a serpent or snake played important roles in the religious and cultural life of ancient Egypt, Canaan, Mesopotamia, and Greece. The serpent was a symbol of evil power and chaos from the underworld as well as a symbol of fertility, life, and healing. It is also associated with divination, including the verb form meaning ‘to practice divination or fortune-telling’.
The amount of blood that Zack has is actually quite amazing. You would think that he would have died by now, but of course, he self-proclaimed himself as a ‘monster’, so now it is okay for him to produce blood like there is no tomorrow. Also, if he has some sort of skin illness or burns or whatever his immune system would be in the worse condition possible, so even standing at this point makes him indeed a monster.
The title for the next episode is quite interesting. I think we will finally get to see why Gray is the resident of this floor and why he made Rachel go through all those tests in order for her to ‘judge’ her.
NEXT TIME: The witch trial shall start.
