This dramatic story finally made sense. Zack and Rachel’s relationship is brought to a wonderful conclusion, along with Dr. Danny’s obsession over Rachel.
Rachel and Zack keep going up the stairs as the facility starts to burn and collapse. Their way is blocked by iron bars that Zack is unable to break at first due to his small panic attack because of the fire surrounding him. With the help of Rachel, he regains his senses and breaks the bars. On their way up, they pass through some other obstacles making Zack’s scythe break in the progress. When they reach the top, Rachel asks Zack if he truly wants to kill her, and that she wouldn’t want him to do it if he doesn’t want it as well. He reassures her that he doesn’t do things he doesn’t want and then Danny arrives and shoots Rachel in the back. He reveals that he activated the self-destruct building sequence and holds Zack at gunpoint to watch Ray die, so he will have to live with the knowledge he couldn’t fulfill his promise. Rachel then says to Zack that she doesn’t care if the vow is not fulfilled, only the fact that it was made in the first place keeps her at peace, so he shouldn’t think himself of a liar either. Danny is jealous of Rachel’s affection towards Zack and he shoots her again, preparing to kill Zack as well, but Grey comes in and shoots him with a crossbow. Grey then tells Zack to take Rachel and leave in order to save her while Danny still points his gun at Zack’s back.
Rachel’s face when Zack grabbed her: This is hands-down the most rewarding scene we had so far on the show. I honestly couldn’t believe she made that face when I first saw it. So god damn cute.
Going up the stairs: The whole scene of them going up the stairs was very symbolic in a way. As they ascend their way to ‘freedom’, we get to understand why these two characters complement each other so well, and the reason for that is: Zack believes in Rachel and she believes in him. Rachel gave him a purpose, and he has managed to get out of his serial killer mode and went back to being his true self and Zack made a promise to Rachel that managed to keep her going. He is no longer a mindless serial killer and she no longer mindlessly wants to die. They both have a goal now.
Dr. Danny aka the Undead Doctor: Even though he was presented as an annoying bad guy that doesn’t seem to die, I think he evolved into a very well-written villain. Yes, he has the unnecessary evil tropes that go along with the whole package but at the end of the day you see that he is the real reason behind the main character’s problems. You could say that he works as a metaphor for an abusive guardian who wants to protect his ‘kid’ but cannot see through his own selfishness.
In case you missed it: After then ending credits of the episode, there is a very emotional recap of everything that has happened so far in the story. The lyrics of the song playing at the back go along so well with the message that it tries to get out and one thing that you might have not paid much attention to is that the titles of the episodes make some sort of a small dialogue between the characters which is a very nice touch to the whole atmosphere of the series.
I liked how Grey was casually taking a stroll around the floors when everything was collapsing. Does this man have no sense of danger at all, or he just doesn’t give a shit about what happens to him?
Oh my Lord, the scene of Danny shooting Rachel and Rachel lying on the floor crying was just a piece of art. Honestly, this show has such beautiful moments that you just can’t help but love and appreciate the time they put into creating them. Stunning visuals.
One more thing. I would really like to have some sort of face cam from the voice actor of Dr. Danny while he was recording the scene of him being hesitant about shooting them or not. All those weird sounds made by a real human must be a marvel to witness face to face.
Angels of Death is almost done and I have to say that it was a great adaptation of the original game and story. It might have been hard for some to follow, but the storytelling was very nice and rewarding as it reached its end. In the next episode, we will finally get to see if Zack will actually fulfill his vow or not.
NEXT TIME: Stop crying and smile.
