Rachel finally realizes that she is a human being after all, Danny is an undead zombie, and Zack is probably the sanest person in that establishment.
Rachel shoots Danny and then tries to kill Zack claiming that he is hers. However, she is very confused since she has lost her faith in her God and there is no one else to forgive her which makes her hesitant to kill Zack. He then pushes her down and shakes her back to her senses, reminding her that she is her own person. The two swear to each other again on their vow and attempt to continue their way out. Even though B1 is Rachel’s floor she is unaware of any exit there and after careful observation she deducts that the exit must be on the B2 floor. While on her way to activate the power for the elevator, she encounters Grey, who questions her once again for her identity and intentions and she replies to him that she has accepted herself and she will take responsibility for her actions from now on. Grey is satisfied with her answer and as a result gives her a hint that the exit is behind the stained glass window on the B2 floor. Zack and Rachel try to find her gun before going to the elevator and realize that Danny’s body is missing once again and that her gun is destroyed. They go down to B2 smash through the stained glass window that reveals a long stairway leading up. On their way to the surface they hear that the building’s self-destruct sequence has been initiated.
Rachel is finally showing emotions: It took her a while but finally this poor girl realized that she is her own person and that she has no need of a savior or God to forgive her. She has accepted herself for who she really is and she claims that she doesn’t want to be forgiven anymore, she just wants to end her life. She still feels unclean and sinful but at least Zack made her realize that she doesn’t have to overthink everything and act so dramatic about it.
Zack is the voice of logic: Honestly, even though he is a serial killer, he is the most rational guy in there. When Rachel says to him that she is unclean, he replies back to her saying: ‘Who do you think you are talking to? I kill people because I like it’, which really makes you see the irony in their whole conversations. Seeing a mass murderer trying to make a girl not wanting to kill herself and accept who she is. This is definitely a strange situation. Also, once again I love his reactions to everything. Danny’s body is missing, he says: ’I think he is the real monster here’, Rachel is saying that he can’t kill her as she is now: ‘You are making no sense’, they try to push the organ so they can move forward: ‘Rachel don’t just look at me, help me out!’ and then ‘Shit my hands are dead’. He also mentions to Rachel that ‘You seem more human now’, he is just voicing the viewers reactions so effortlessly.
Themes & Trivia
Is Rachel a kuudere or not? Kuudere is a popular anime/manga character archetype that derives from the Japanese pronunciation of the English word ‘cool’. It is used to describe characters who always remain calm and composed. Though they act serious on the outside, they often have a very dry, sarcastic sense of humour. They tend to have deep love for someone (whether romantic or otherwise) but are afraid to show it too often because they view it as a weakness, either because of who they are or because of the situation they are in. More often than not, they come off as emotionless, acting very cold, blunt and cynical.
The moment you think that this anime has nothing more to offer and they just repeat the same dialogue in different ways, there comes the beauty of the moonlight scene that changes your saltiness. When Zack was trying to shake Rachel back to her senses and she realizes what he says and snaps out of her crazy mode, we see a scene of the bloody moon changing back to blue by the drop of a tear. That was just BEAUTIFUL. Well done J.C.Staff, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this scene.
I only accepted who I am.
Rachel finds herself and they seem to be ready to escape, but WAIT. Someone has press the self-destruct button making this look like a Resident Evil video game. Was it Grey or the undead Dr. Danny? We will find out next week.
