Gray thinks he is a God, Rachel can’t believe that God doesn’t exist so she makes Zack her God, and Zack, who considers himself a monster, ends up being adored by a young girl as a deity. Angels of Death gets more and more complicated every week.
As Rachel is sentenced to burn in the flames, Gray reveals to her that he believes himself to be a God, which makes Rachel reflect oh her relationship with Zack and come to the conclusion that he is her own God. She cuts herself with Zack’s knife and manages to snap out of Gray’s illusion. He surrenders and gives the medicine to Rachel who decides not to kill him. She then returns to Zack and treats him while telling him that she has come to realize that he is her true God. After stitching him up, they head for floor B1. On their way up, Rachel asks him about his burn scars and Zack tells her that his mother’s lover set him on fire in an attempt to kill him before his mother sold him off in an orphanage. Rachel is happy to learn more about him and tries to tell him a secret that she has been hiding but cannot bring herself to do so because she fears that Zack will hate her for lying to him. They arrive at floor B1 that looks like a house that Rachel recognizes and she starts panicking when Zack tries to open the door for the next room.
Gray is a God and the residents are Angels: So there you go everyone, in this episode we see the meaning behind the title of the whole series, which is actually quite self-explanatory but anyways. Gray thinks of himself as a God and he mentions that Rachel destroyed the hearts of the angels. It is safe to assume that he is the one bringing these people there in order to make himself feel more godlike, purifying them and caring for them as his angels. Even Rachel says that he seems to have a soft spot for Zack, and in previous episodes, he seems to know details about the lives of everyone that reside there. But the question is: Is he really a bad guy or just delusional?
Zack is probably the purest soul in there: Honestly, after hearing his backstory on how he got the burn scars, he is definitely an innocent soul that got fucked up due to his life situation. He was a child that has never been well treated or educated and was always dealing with horrifying situations. He started killing because he didn’t know how else to defend himself and cope with everything happening around him. He thinks it’s too late for him to turn back, or he just doesn’t want to turn back because he can’t understand people’s thoughts and hates seeing other people happy.
Rachel is desperate and funny: Okay, I understand that she is looking for a reason to justify her actions and her own existence but am I the only one that finds the whole situation kind of funny? I mean she grasps that the God described in the Bible doesn’t exist and tries to make Zack her own God in order to explain to herself why she cares and has affection towards him. The kids in this show are in desperate need of some good parenting I think.
Just a friendly reminder: The series will have 16 episodes and not 12 like the usual trope. The last 3 episodes will air online, instead of a TV broadcast. This is quite exciting because, for those who have not played the game, the B1 floor constitutes its own arc, which would be a shame to see it covered in only 2 episodes. We will have a detailed adaptation along with some potential backstory stuff surrounding character’s past and Gray’s operations.
There are some quotes from Gray in this episode that are quite interesting: ‘The existences of multiple deities create chaos.’ along with ‘God will not tolerate those who lie or are unclean.’ These quotes really make you think that some dark shit is about to follow. The backstory of Rachel is going to be very intense, along with everything that happened on the B1 floor.
Can I also add that I love Zack’s reaction to Rachel’s weirdness?
‘… – ‘cause you are my God, Zack. – What the hell are you saying, you freak?!’
Rachel looks very familiar with the place and panicked when Zack opened the door for the next room. What exactly happened there, and more importantly, is there someone in there? Who is the resident of the B1 floor?
NEXT TIME: Try to know everything about Her.
