Japanese Title: Tejina-senpai
This series is a gag story set in the magic club of a high school. One of the members is a cute girl who is a failure as a magician, no matter what she does. We follow her and her assistant, who could be considered a pervert, on their daily magic-adventures.
Do you like magic tricks done horribly and with no explanation on how they are done? Do you like simple gags that are not really that funny but always end in a buxom girl showing her cleavage and panties? That’s exactly what you’ll get with Magical Sempai. The titular protagonist is the head (and only member) of the school’s magic club. She clearly has a passion for it but lacks terribly in skill. Assistant-kun is a teenage boy with too many hormones who decided to join the club because his senpai is stupid and has big boobs. Do you think I am oversimplifying things? Just watch the first episode. I wouldn’t recommend spending the 12 minutes through the first episode, unless you are into super-relaxed ecchi series and you just want to numb your mind for a few moments. Can I suggest meditation?
Magical Sempai follows the antics of an underclassman and his amazingly incompetent senpai who is obsessed with magic tricks. There’s not much I can say about this short anime at the moment, but I really liked the short gags that happens in each segment and none of them wear out their welcome. The charm of this show depends if you like seeing one character play the straight man while the other messes things up constantly. There’s also a few fanservice moments mixed in here and there, but they aren’t too distracting right now. It got a few chuckles from me and I’m hoping to see more quirky characters interact with our two leads.
I thought this would be a comedy anime that would trigger my tear ducts for laughing out loud. I really thought I was going to watch a great entertainment to combat my stressful days. But… I was wrong. It isn’t my thing at all. Magical Sempai is another fan service that is full of ecchi fascination. This is just another title of the summer lineup that adds more excitement for ecchi fans after their encounter with Sounan Desu ka? To those who are still exploring the world of ecchi, this anime is a good try. It isn’t that too explicit when it comes to its mature content. The humor and the magical things aren’t really engaging though. If you’re into cute girls with too much to offer for your own delusions and satisfaction, then this anime is just for you.
