Japanese Title: Yurucamp
Yurucamp starts with the meeting between first-time camper Nadeshiko Kagamihara, and Rin Shima, who loves going camping by herself. It is an outdoorsy girls story.
Laid-back Camp is exactly what the title suggests: an anime about camping that is so chill, you might feel a bit dozy, just like one of the two protagonists of this episode, Nadeshiko, an overly cheerful teen that finds joy in virtually everything she does. If you are used to slice-of-life anime with cute girls doing cute things, then you are already used to the archetype. I don’t particularly like it but its silliness was balanced by Rin’s, the second girl we were introduced in this episode, seriousness, and self-reliance. Rin is a camping enthusiast who prefers bracing the outdoors alone.
The soundtrack blends well with the amazing vistas of the show, from the woods and lake to an amazing shot of Mt.Fuji during the night. There is also an educational side to the anime; a nameless narrator explains the basics of one aspect of camping (how to light a fire in Episode 1) and the ending card provides some useful tips. If you love laid-back slice-of-life anime and some amazing scenery, then you should check the first episode. If you, by any chance, are a camper or you are thinking about camping, then Laid-back Camp should probably be on your anime list for Winter 2018.
