Japanese Title: かくりよの宿飯(やどめし)
The story follows main character Aoi Tsubaki, a university student who was swept away into a hidden world (Kakuri Yo) as a demon’s wife, because of her grandfather’s loan. Instead of marrying the demon, she opens a restaurant at an old-fashioned inn called Tenjinya. It’s a story about Aoi living together with ayakashi (Japanese supernatural creatures), such as a demon and a nine-tailed fox, while managing the inn.
I’ll be honest, I only watched it because there was this one scene in the trailer where the Master of the Inn, who happens to be a demon, holds the heroine in something like an embrace and tells her that she is his bride.
It seems like a cute romance story and I like what I see, but maybe not enough to stick through the series as a whole… The story seems cute and there will most likely be some romance and delicious food. It is a good mix, but I am not very much into the strange creatures and the animation and like that, I might end up not watching too much of it. If you like romance stories and food anime, this will definitely be something you like, and if on top of everything you love Japanese fairy tales and the traditional culture of Japan, this series might be able to teach you something new or at least provide beautiful background pictures set in a traditional Japanese world.
This series aroused my interest from when the first visual got published. The ayakashi Inn’s Master and Ginji are totally the type of men I prefer in manga and animations. Especially Ginji with his cute ears and tails and the way he transformed himself into a little boy, a grown woman, and then the cute little fox. I would love to have this guy around me.
The main character, Aoi, seems to be a nice person with good intentions because she is feeding tiny kappa (which are by the way really cute!), but I am not sure if I’m fond of her yet because there was something about her I didn’t like in the first episode. Let’s hope that she’ll change my mind after the second episode.
I will definitely continue to watch this anime as it seems to be quite interesting and not to forget the hot demons.
