English Title: Wasteful Days of High School Girl
The wasteful days of youth. Nozomi (nickname: Baka) has strange views about value, Akane (nickname: Ota) is a BL fan, and Shiori (nickname: Robo) is talented but has no facial expressions. This is a school comedy about three high school girls wasting their time in unique ways.
What I like about slice-of-life school anime is their potential to hit that sweet spot between fiction and reality. Few manage to find that balance between trying too hard and surrendering to the flow; Wasteful Days of High School Girl finds that middle ground. Tanaka is a carefree girl who spends her first days in high school trying to find a way to meet ikemen, good looking boys who are boyfriend-material. Together with her two best friends (Shiori, a shy genious; and Nozomua wannabe manga artist), they meet their new perverted teacher (no teacher should say to their student the things he said on his first day), a few of their classmates (who have their own stereotypical characters), and discuss Tanaka’s ingenious fantasies of how she would want to find a boyfriend. In true slice-of-life fashion, however, the episode ends with a life lesson that can be applied to our lives as well. It may be a little cheesy, but that’s the thing with universal truths: sometimes we need to hear them many a time to really sink.
Sadly, though, this is not an anime I am willing to invest my time on. If you, however, want a comedy that doesn’t get too silly and is full of high school girls doing pretty real stuff, then you might want to give this a chance.
