Episode 1 Review
Japanese Title: 博多豚骨ラーメンズ
The story takes place in the ward of Hakata in Fukuoka, where it’s said 3% of the population are professional killers. With a cast of unique hired guns, we can take a look at the world of Fukuoka’s underground.
I thought I would try this series out as it had some Durarara-vibes to it, albeit with less dullahan and more hitmen. The story takes places in the Hakata Ward of Fukuoka on the island of Kyushu, and many of the characters speak in a local dialect, although I cannot vouch for its accuracy. Just as Durarara featured many real places in Ikebukuro, Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens seems to be accurately depicting many places in the area, such as the train station and department store buildings. The first episode only briefly gave us a glimpse of many characters, but my favorite so far must be Ling Xianming. He is overconfident in his abilities but gets the job done. Despite the whole murdering people thing, he seems to be a good person deep inside, working to pay off his debts and hopefully save his sister. There’s also the fact he looks dang fine in a dress.
I was highly disturbed by the president’s son (whose name I cannot and do not want to remember). He kills people for fun, expects his father’s employees to just take care of it for him, and has absolutely no respect for anybody. An entitled piece of shit if I ever saw one. I will gladly watch just to hopefully see him slowly tortured. I will keep watching this series, but I hope we can get an interesting story rather than relying too much on the unique cast of characters.
