Japanese: Piano no Mori
Piano no Mori tells the story of two boys from very different walks of life as they grow as pianists and aim to take part in a piano competition.
There is something magical about Piano no Mori. Kai’s musical adventures are sprinkled with fairy dust and almost all the characters remind me of fairytales. Kai is the son of a prostitute and a musical genius. Just below his home in one of the shadiest parts of town, a former pianist of international fame has retired his old broken piano and now works as the school’s music teacher. Amamiya, an aspiring pianist, transfers from the city and meets Kai who takes him to the broken piano, but alas, the piano is broken for all but Kai. When the little blonde delinquent puts his fingers on the piano, sound comes out, almost as if magic is at work.
I don’t want to spoil the first episode too much, but if you love piano, classical music, and music in general (listening, playing, or both) this is one anime you shouldn’t miss. The piano pieces are played by real pianists and the production went so far as capturing the pianists’ motions in CGI to make the playing parts as realistic as possible.
