It is the third season of Food Wars. Soma will start battling against the Elite Ten at the Totsuki school festival, the Moon Festival. Will Soma be able to defeat at an event that brings 500,000 customers every year?
Since MANGA.TOKYO will be reviewing the third season of the culinary anime, I was curious to see what the fuss is all about. After all, the title ranked first in our Fall 2017 Otaku Poll. The problem is that with two seasons and anime god knows how many OVAs, I was left a little behind when it comes to the characters and the plot.
One thing is certain: Food Wars has the aura of your typical shonen anime. From the supporting cookie-cut characters to the shonen optimism and motivation monologues of the protagonist, this seems like Naruto with knives instead of shurikens.
Yet, the episode and the concept of the shokugeki fights were both interesting. The over-the-top cuisine explanations and hints of super-powers-like moves had me wondering if I should binge all previous material before watching the second episode. I feel, however, that the food-offs will be much more interesting that the plot itself.
