Japanese Title: ソラとウミのアイダ | Sora to Umi no Aida
The fish have disappeared from the oceans.
The Ministry of Agriculture has decided to test out their ‘galactic fish tank project’. In order to follow the Equal Opportunities Act, many people say that women should also become fishermen. The story takes place in Onomichi, Hiroshima. Their goal is to go into space.
This is the story of 6 girls who aim to become galactic fishermen.
What the fishing frak was that? Between the Sky and Sea is based on a game and trust me… you could tell. Besides how boring the first episode was, the only thing I could think was that the industry would think of the most unbelievable scenarios just to have Cute Girls Do Unbelievably Dangerous Things and portray them as charming. The anime spent almost a third of the episode showing us how stereotypically aloof and carefree the protagonist is and then went on explaining the basic premise of how space fishing works: for some reason, humans created space fisheries full of murderous fish than can kill them and the only way to fish them is by using pods that use the power of our smartphones to call deities from the supernatural realm and use their magic to… fish. However ridiculous that sounds, the anime is exactly what every other anime adaptation of a game is: part fan pleasing and part marketing ploy. The space suits of the protagonists may be super sexy but I will not play this game anytime soon. The anime? Not my cup of tea, but check it out if you like cute girls doing cute things while risking their lives fishing space fish.
