Japanese Title: Sounan Desu Ka?
No home… no food… no water…
Stranded on an uninhabited island in the middle of nowhere, these four high school girls are in big trouble! Or…at least they should be, but they’re actually pretty peppy!
They have nothing, but that means they can make anything! They can eat everything!
A survival of wisdom and courage!
The first episode of Sounan Desu Ka reminded me how easily expectations can deceive you. I was expecting a silly short series full of panty shots and boobies and cute girls doing cute things in a very ecchi fashion and that was exactly what I got… but not all that the anime had to offer. Between the lingerie, cuteness and totally unrealistic reactions of four girls who have just survived a plane crash, there is some decent gag sketch comedy and encyclopaedic explanations about things like how horizon visibility works, why we can’t drink seawater, and how you can use a cellphone battery to repel sharks. If you (like me) want something substantial to back your ecchi cravings, then you need to give the first episode of Sounan Desu Ka a chance.
Four cute girls wake up and find themselves stranded on a deserted island. Their only chance of survival and escape revolves around the skills of one of the girls named Homare and her expert knowledge of the natural elements. I mildly enjoyed this first episode overall because it was hilarious to see the strange, drastic ways Homare teaches the girls to survive on the island and find fresh drinking water. The main OP is also fairly catchy and is probably one of my favorites this season. I’d love to see more focus on the other girls next episode, so I’ll be looking forward to what the girls do next week.
