Hi, this is Ayumi, your favorite otaku writer from MANGA.TOKYO and a big fan of themed cafes. The minute I found out about the Yuri!!! on ICE collaboration I knew I had to visit the place and bring back a photo report for all of you!
Princess Café is known for collaborations with anime and games, such as Idolish 7 and Drifters. It has many branches in places like Sapporo, Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, and Fukuoka. The collaborations there normally include some rare stuff like Poputepipikku (Pop Team Epic by Okawa Bkub), which makes them unforgettable.
This time, I’m visiting the Osaka branch. And something that I want to stay between us: I was so excited to visit this place that I ended up staying up all night watching the anime…
So, here I am inside the café! The Yuri!!! on ICE Collaboration Café is on the 3rd floor of Building No.1.
As soon as we got there, the ‘Theme of King J.J.’, one of the skaters’ theme songs, welcomed us into the café. All the background music played in the cafe is from Yuri!!! on ICE.
It’s JJ Styyyyyle!!
The music of this anime is wonderful and the songs made me feel so excited even before eating the food!
As we moved further inside we saw a super girly space, no wonder they call it the ‘princess’ cafe.
There are only 9 tables, which is a surprise. I expected it to be bigger.
Our table was unbelievably close to the cardboard cutouts. It felt like they were staring at us all the time. Awkward.
The window featured some original coasters with never-seen-before illustrations! The super deformed characters all look adorable. Kawaii!!
All the characters were there! This was so thoughtful. Every character has his own fans and it was nice to see them all up there.
At the counter there were some anime goods samples. I love the handmade signs made by the café staff. Makkachin and Katsudon are so cute ♡ !
The Yuri!!! on ICE food and drink menu!
For every ¥2000 spent, visitors got an entry form to win one of these cardboard cutouts! Only one person gets to win this life-size cutput! I wanted it so much!!
All right, it’s time to enjoy our meal…even though we have those three staring at us… Let me introduce the special dishes!
Yuri no Daisuki na Katsudon (Yuri’s favorite Katsudon/pork cutlet over rice) – ¥980
Speaking of Yuri!!! on ICE, katsudon is the first thing that comes to your mind: Yuri equals katsudon!
This katsudon was actually bigger than it looks in the picture. People with small appetite would be full after eating this. I enjoyed the good dashi aroma in the deep-fried pork cutlet and egg. It’s so easy to keep eating when the dish has such a rich flavor. One bite, another, and more…who has to go on a diet, anyway!?
Yuri no Omoide no Piroshiki (Yuri’s unforgettable pirozhki) – ¥580
This must have been made by Yurio’s grandpa, it has to be… The pirozhki was crispy with chunky pieces of meat inside. The texture of the meat was good, so it was actually satisfying despite its smallish look. I always thought that pirozhki had minced meat inside, but I guess you can make the dish with many different fillings. The side salad was great and refreshing.
Makkachin no Mofumofu Pancakes (Makkachin’s super-soft pancakes) – ¥780
Great news for those who have a sweet tooth! These petit pancakes were topped with a mountain of whipped cream. The cream was light and easy to eat, the pancakes were amazing and in perfect harmony with the chocolate sauce. This petit size does the trick and helps you eat the pancakes easily. The cutest part was Makkachin’s food pick.
I recommend this dish for people who will come for coffee/tea or for those who don’t eat much!
By the way, the most popular menu here at the Osaka branch is Katsudon, and by a narrow margin, pirozhki comes in second. I totally agree.
I'm a good-for-nothing otaku who works as a freelance web writer.
I live in Kyoto, Japan, but I am so often in Tokyo for anime-related cafes and products that people frequently misunderstood that I live there. Yowamushi Pedal helps me overcome all difficulties. I'm also a huge fan of Touken Ranbu! In order to deliver to you the latest otaku info and trends, I'll keep dwelling in the 2-D world. Thank you very much!
