Hi everyone. It’s Kobayashi from MANGA.TOKYO. Yuri on Ice, the hugely popular TV anime series which aired in Fall 2016, opened a special collaboration café for a limited time only in Omotesando. How could I resist visiting the place? Here is my report on the visit.

The café has a varied menu, from large dishes such as ‘Yu-topia Katsuki’s Famous Yuri Katsudon’ and ‘Phichit’s Gapao Rice’, to a variety of drinks and desserts including ‘Yuri on Shaved Ice – In Regards to Love –‘ and ‘Victor’s Quad Flip Jump Soda’.
The dishes are filled with love for the anime
Yu-topia Katsuki’s Famous Yuri Katsudon
‘Yu-topia Katsuki’s Famous Yuri Katsudon’ (katsudon = deep fried pork cutlet and eggs on a bowl of white rice) is unarguably the signature dish of Yuri on Ice. I was served a seasoned beansprout and broccoli dish as a starter followed by the main, the katsudon! The dish was served in this way to recreate the scene of the anime, in which Yuri eats vegetables first to lose weight.
The vegetable dish was seasoned with a dressing of Japanese stock. Its delicate flavor made me want to eat more. When I was about to finish the starter, the katsudon arrived. The chunky pork was covered with crispy breadcrumbs. The seasoned and cooked soft egg mixture was so tasty with the rice and the crispy pork cutlet. I couldn’t stop eating! I heard that this katsudon was one of the most popular dishes. There were so many people here ordering it.
This is ‘Yuri’s Pirozhki’ from the takeout menu. Inside the crispy dough was, you guessed it, katsudon! It’s a faithful recreation of the food from the anime and I was so excited!
The crispness and sweetness of the dough went well with the savory katsudon filling. It was impossible to suppress my appetite. It’s very filling for even for gents!
Yuri on Shaved Ice – In Regards To Love –
This dish is called ‘Yuri on Shaved Ice – In Regards To Love –‘ which symbolizes the iconic ‘Agape’ skating sequence by Yuri and Yurio. Vanilla and strawberry flavored ice cream and fruits such as strawberry and mango were arranged on the plate. It comes with two types of sauce, Blue Hawaii syrup and condensed milk.
The richness and sweetness of the ice cream and the fresh taste of the fruit and shaved ice created a perfect dish which you can never get bored of.
Victor’s Quad Flip Jump Soda
‘Victor’s Quad Flip Jump Soda’ was inspired by the gorgeous Victor and his sexy performances. Pour the soda water onto the candy floss on top of the glass, then watch Victor spin! It was a fun way to make the soda cocktail. The sweet candy floss mixed with tangy red berry syrup creating a sweet and tangy taste filled with passion. Along with the katsudon, this is one of the most popular items on the menu!
Makkachin’s Café Mocha
This was a coffee mocha inspired by Victor’s beloved dog, Makkachin. There were two varieties, hot or ice, and both came with a cute Makkachin face on fluffy white froth.
The café serves an even wider variety of foods and drinks. Many fans come back again and again to enjoy the dishes and the atmosphere of the cafe.
You can get an original place mat on your visit to the café, and an original A3 clear poster exclusive to the café if you book your table online. Furthermore, the event has exclusive merchandise, including acrylic character stands, tote bags, and clear files, all selling like hot cakes.
A brand new Yuri on Ice movie was announced recently. It seems the popularity of Yuri on Ice continues to grow stronger.

I am in charge of development and editing at MANGA.TOKYO.
Taking advantage of my school days, where I spent a lot of my free time with music and anime, I look for new content and want to expose the fun side of Japan’s Otaku culture.
My favorite anime is Gurren Lagann!
