On the 10-12 March 2017, a series of concerts were held at the Budokan for the popular 2D idol game Idolmaster: Million Live. The concert was titled The Idolmaster Million Live! Thank You for Smile!! Each of the three concerts featured different performers and different set lists. This report covers the third performance on 12 March 2017, which had the subtitle StarLight Theater.
This concert is both ‘the finale’ of the four years of Idolmaster history, and ‘the beginning’ of Idolmaster‘s new chapter. On this third day, all 36 members of 765 Theater Allstars (excluding Risa Taneda, who voices Kotoha Tanaka and is currently taking a break from work to recuperate from an illness) came up on stage. This was a surprise for the fans, as they were only notified of 12 performers appearing at this event. Today, we would like to report on this special stage, Starlight Theater!
Out of all 28 songs sung on this day, the fans’ excitement reached its peak during the performance of Refrain Kiss, which was sang by Scorpio, the idol unit formed by Sora Amamiya, Reina Ueda, and Rie Murakawa. It was their first time singing this song in public. Each member has already made their debut as solo singers and they are all known for their singing abilities, so the fans roared with excitement thanks to their powerful singing. Another song which heated up the fans was Jireru Heart ni Hi wo Tsukete. This song is originally sung by Burning Girl, an idol group in Idolmaster with Kotoha Tanaka as the leader. However, as Taneda (who voices Kotoha) was absent, the other four members performed on stage, leaving a space for Taneda’s standing position. The members of Burning Girl united the audience as one with their energetic performance.
During the encore, Youzou Sakagami, the general producer of the Idolmaster series, came up on the stage. On the big screen, he showed a promotional video to commemorate the fourth anniversary of Idolmaster, titled Million Live! no Korekara (The Future of Million Live!) starring all members of 765 MillionStars. Sakagami also revealed information on the new smartphone app Idolmaster Million Live! Theatre Days and the new CD series The Idolmaster Million Theater Generation. The fans were waiting to learn new info on the smartphone app which they have long been waiting for, and there were even fans who screamed in joy when the game’s trailer was shown onscreen.
The last song performed on this day was Thank You!, sung by the 36 members of 765Theater AllStars. A 3D version of Kotoha Tanaka appeared onscreen, which presumably was the image from the previously-announced game Theater Days, and it was as if all 37 members were up on the stage. After singing this song, all members put their microphones on the stage floor and shouted out ‘Thank you!’ to the fans. This was the ending of the spectacular three-day concert.
