The last session of ‘The spring nonstop festival by Nippon Television anime! – Stage mashimashi Nico TV on air – ‘ held in their booth at AnimeJapan 2016 was ‘A “Chihayafuru” reviews by Asami Seto!’.
Guests on the 27th went on the stage were Asami Seto who plays the character Chihaya, director Morio Asaka and producer Toshio Nakatani. They gave talks on the preparation for releasing anime live-action films and the review of TV anime versions.
When the producer Nakatani and Seto met each other, Seto was still a high school student and came for a different audition then. He commented on her impression at that time saying ‘I was surprised. I thought she was such a lovely person how she was just there but she had a nice breeze around her or something.’ After it’s been animated, this anime spread in popularity among fans of the original manga book and Japanese tanka poems and became a work that has a large presence after changing the view of the competitive karuta cards in general.
The bottleneck producing TV anime was how to express the elementary schooler version. It’s a story about high school students, but we thought it best to start from the elementary school time and the recall part would need three episodes, Producer Asaka said. It is supposedly quite rare that the recall part would use three times the episodes on a TV series. However, the present and recalled scenes were done separately and producer Nakatani said the amazing work was a ‘Genius idea’.
In addition to that, they also recorded the audition commentary while reviewing “Chihayafuru”. The talk about the miracle timing on sorting the casts and work is available to enjoy in the limited time version Blue-ray BOX.
Seto talked about the pleasure of how she could bask in the “Chihayafuru” world together with the fans in the venue and viewers of Nico-live at the end. She also told us that watching the elementary school time version in anime before watching the live-action film will give us a deeper understanding when watching the film.
“Chihayafuru” the original work of Yuki Suetsugu is a youngblood manga with the theme of competitive karuta cards. The TV anime of the manga was broadcasted from 2011 to 2012 for the first season and the second season in 2013 and it became popular with the powerful match game scenes and the sensitive story.
‘Chihayafuru limited time version in Blue-ray BOX’ will be released on the 20th of April and ‘Chihayafuru 2 limited time version in Blue-ray BOX’ on the 25th of May.
The live-action film will be in theaters in Japan from the 29th of April and the main character is played by Suzu Hirose.
