On 1 April 2017 at the Kadokawa Cinema Shinjuku in Tokyo, Roku de Nashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Record (Akashic Records of the Bastard Magical Instructor) held a pre-screening event. They showed the first two episodes of the anime, and features a talk show with the cast. Soma Saito (Glenn Radars), Akane Fujita (Sistine
Soma Saito (Glenn Radars), Akane Fujita (Sistine Fibel), and Yume Miyamoto (Lumia Tingel) attended the event and held a small talk segment for the audience.
When Saito asked the audience if they enjoyed the first two episodes, they replied with a big round of applause. Fujita said, ‘It was great that we could watch 2 whole episodes, right?’ and Miyamoto added, ‘Glenn was really cool in the second episode, right?’ Episode 1 only showed Glenn as a dull magic teacher, but in Episode 2 we get a glimpse into his secrets and behind his mask and see a bit of his charm.
Then, the cast talked about the scenes that impressed them. The host also asked them about the recording sessions. Miyamoto said about Saito, ‘His (stale) reactions were lame,’ with Fujita countering him, ‘But he looks cool, standing in front of the mic, you know? I am sure the girls here will agree!’ Saito said, ‘As the title says, it’s about a “bastard instructor,” so I think Glenn is not quite that cool.’ They bantered on for a bit until they talked about the scenes where he first met Sistine and Lumia.
Fujita remembers being told by the directing staff that he is too disrespectful to Glenn. Since Miyamoto didn’t have much experience with comedy, she watched Saito and Fujita interacting and followed their example. They also talked about co-stars who weren’t at the event, such as Eri Kitamura (Celica Arfonia) who nailed a fast-paced magical chant on the first try. The cast had a lot of fun in the studio.
During the game segment, they had to introduce their characters with only three words. Saito said, ‘Book, booze, zodon!,’ Fujita said, ‘Eat, lie down, sleep’ and Miyamoto said, ‘Club activities, drinking out and children.’ Everybody introduced each other in a good way, but people were curious about Miyamoto’s ‘children.’ Miyamoto feels like she has to protect children and it seems that if there a is a child crying on the train, she often finds herself soothing them. By the way, if you want to understand what Saito meant with ‘zodon,’ you should watch Episode 2!
At the end, Konomi Suzuki came on stage for an enthusiastic live performance of the opening theme ‘Blow out.’ The audience stood up and held out their light sticks. Suzuki said about the song, ‘It shows the feelings of the main character, Glenn, who is blown away by despair. It is a great and heavy song and I am looking forward to performing it live.’
After the song, the audience responded to the performance with a big round of applause!
