“Ghibli Great Exhibition: from Nausicaä to the latest work, Red Turtle” is held from July 7th to September 11th at the Sky Gallery on the observation platform Tokyo City View in Roppongi Hills, Tokyo.
In this Exhibition, you can see 30 years of development of Studio Ghibli established in 1985 through the old advertisements of each work, creation resources, work proposals, secret resources, and plenty of displays.
The exhibition will have three displays: “Red Turtle: A story about an island,” the latest movie in the theaters on September 17th, Ghibli Great Exhibition, and flying machines. There is also an official shop. At the café, The Sun, they serve 11 dishes from an original menu. Black Burger, Sunny Side Up Toast, Matcha Umbrella Shaved Ice, and etc. They all expressed the Ghibli universe enjoyably.
In the “Red Turtle: A Story About an Island” display, they will display storyboards, sketches, and huge panels from scenes in the movie. You can get a taste of the universe of the movie before it comes out. There are also a variety of extras on scenery, letters from Shigesato Itoi and Toshio Suzuki who created many catch phrases for Ghibli movies. They are worth taking a close look.
You can go inside of the Cat Bus from My Neighbor Totoro, and feel the fluffy seats. The old newspaper ads are displayed all over the whole wall, it is overwhelming. You can feel the history of Ghibli here as well, and also what kinds of works they made back then. Not only Ghibli related things, but also the history of trains and planes are displayed as well, and you can actually touch them. All members of a family can enjoy this exhibit.
