Hello everyone! This is your favorite MANGA.TOKYO writer, Ayumi! The Japanese otaku are not blindfolded; we know that anime and manga are not the only geeky cartoons in the world. There are many overseas animation that are popular here, like Adventure Time, the famous American animated TV series that follows the adventures of a boy named Finn and his best friend (and adoptive brother) Jake, a dog with magical power.
I heard that there was an Adventure Time collaboration cafe at Sweets Paradise in Tennoji, Osaka, so I popped by for a visit.
This is the second time that an Adventure Time collab cafe was held in Japan, after the one in Tokyo back in 2014! It’s been 3 years…! OF COURSE I had to go!
Where’s the Venue?
The venue of the cafe is Sweets Paradise Tennoji Mio. It’s in the Abeno area, which is close to Osaka’s otaku town, Nipponbashi. It is easy to access from the famous Osaka buildings Abeno Harukas and Tsutenkaku. The shop is located on the 11th floor of a trendy fashion building in the area.
Sweets Paradise, Sui-para for short, is widely popular among young people for its all-you-can-eat sweets for ¥1530. In recent years, they have been holding many anime collaborations with anime like Tsukiuta,King of Prism, and Yuri!!! on ICE.
In this event, visitors could have the all-you-can-eat deal for ¥1530 plus ¥570 for 1 event-themed food and 1 drink. It’s a nice system for really starving people! It’s also the right deal for people who won’t be satisfied just with anime food ♡
I brought Jake. I got him in an arcade for today’s coverage (my personal item).
Right before I started, the shop manager said to me: ‘There are lots of stuffed toys, so place them however you want.’ At this point, my excitement meter went through the roof. The shop is full of stuffed toys? What’s going on!? Let’s go check it out!
Jake Jake Jake!
There were more than I expected!
No matter where you looked, it was Finn and Jake. Jake. Jake. Jake. And Jake.
Jake sitting at a 2-person table. Thanks to him, I didn’t feel Lonely anymore…! A meal with Jake!
The place is bursting with 3D Jakes, and lots of cute panels are placed here and there. Basically, lots of them are scenes in which Jake is eating something. I felt the passion in the details.
In addition, there were Adventure Time videos playing on the shop’s TVs!
I love this surreal atmosphere.
It was a shop where you could enjoy Adventure Time‘s wonderful cuteness not only with the food, but also with your eyes and ears!
Now let me show you the collaboration food you’re probably curious about.
I'm a good-for-nothing otaku who works as a freelance web writer.
I live in Kyoto, Japan, but I am so often in Tokyo for anime-related cafes and products that people frequently misunderstood that I live there. Yowamushi Pedal helps me overcome all difficulties. I'm also a huge fan of Touken Ranbu! In order to deliver to you the latest otaku info and trends, I'll keep dwelling in the 2-D world. Thank you very much!
