Movie version of “Yu-Gi-Oh” receives a “Standing Ovation! Screening”! Together with everyone, “Burst Stream of Destruction!”
The movie version “Yu-Gi-Oh THE DARK SIDE OF DIMENSIONS” was released on April 23nd and has become a big hit! One of the screening plans on May 13th executed the first “Standing Ovation! Screening”.
Voice raisings, cosplay and glow sticks are all possible at every one of the nation’s nine theaters.
Anime! Anime!, according to the data from the editorial department, Wald 9 in Shinjuku is the first for “Standing Ovation! Screening” to have been executed. I will report to situation.
In the lobby of Wald 9, complete in statue form is the story’s one and only “Blue Eyes White Dragon” on display. Fans that come in cosplay enjoy their time taking pictures together as well as creating a whole different mood when watching the screening. Especially numerous are fans dressed up in black suits to imitate the Kaiba Corporation employees. Everyone brought their own spirit.
“Yu-Gi-Oh” has its very own playing card game which is mostly popular amongst men. However, the TV anime is popular even amongst women, so that the fans coming to the theater version were mostly women.
Before the screening started, Producer Sanematsu went up the podium as a surprise and asked the fellow fans if they would be willing to do a “Standing Ovation! Screening”. Then from the CM, the fans voices cried out, the screening was finally starting.
In the screening, as soon as the widely popular, charismatic and arrogant Kaiba makes an entrance, cheers followed by streams of shouts calling out “President!” sounded out. As the title appeared, a thunderous applause commenced. Regardless it being the first screening, the moment a character appeared, the fans familiarly called out “Mokuba!” “Yugi!” Especially when the incredibly popular “Aigami” appeared, the squeals of the female fans loudly reverberated.
There are also scenes, depending on the characters scripts, that get replies from the audience. According to the situations, people yelled “Run away!” “Don’t cry!” and even “Burst Stream of Destruction!” together. You could see the viewers enjoying conversing with the characters through the screen. Being able to bring home the glow sticks was also a big success, each of their colors being based on the characters respectively. Kaiba as blue, Yugi as red, Aigami as orange, Jonouchi and Atem as yellow. During the heated battle, the flashing colors even became half-and-half. Waving them in harmony to the BDM, everyone enjoyed themselves in their own way.
As the ending role was wrapping up, many voiced out “Thank you!” towards Sanematsu and the staff. After the screening ended, Producer Sanematsu stood up and cried out “Thank you!” followed by big cheers from the audience. Just as the screening name implied, it ended with a standing ovation. Although during the 130 minute long marathon, many shouts as well as cheers ensued, moments of complete silence as people watch the screen were also not rare. To fans that faced the piece straight on, it was a screening filled to the brim with warm love.
When Toei Officials were asked, they stated that in the future if there is a response and a demand, implementation to continue will be considered. The 20th anniversary becomes memorable as the heated fans continue to increase, hoping it to be held again next time.
