The ‘MIKU EXPO Japan Tour’ is part of Hatsune Miku’s world tour spanning across Japan, Taiwan, and North America. For those who aren’t familiar with Hatsune Miku, she is a character for the singing voice synthesizer made by Crypton Future Media, INC. Miku has become one of Japan’s largest pop cultural icon, and even became endorsement for Toyota!
In live performances Miku is an incredible Hologram projected on stage with a live band playing alongside. Miku is extremely popular in Japan, and the demand for her tickets are extremely sought after Tickets for her concert usually sell out quickly, and if you’re in Japan hoping to catch her live performance, be prepared to jump some hoops to obtain one of her tickets! For the Osaka show in Zepp Namba, I had to apply early in January through Rakuten Japan’s lucky lottery drawing to be one of the lucky goers to purchase a ticket! Fortunately in February I received an email on winning!
Simply put, it was amazing! As an avid concertgoer and Miku lover, this was my 2nd Miku Expo I attended, the first being in the Los Angeles, California in 2014. So how was it? I have to say that seeing a real hologram in person does not compare to watching it on a TV screen, nor does the sights of the amazing lights, and crowd energy!
Just before the doors open for the show, fans gather up in front of the building to buy Miku goods, talk amongst each other, and sometimes people cosplay!
Miku’s concert was an amazing experience with fans cheering with LED glow sticks, an awesome light show, and even surprise confetti! If you plan on going to her concert, try to obtain a seated ticket, or arrive early, as floor-standing tickets aren’t always the best.
Its called Miku Expo right? So what is the “Expo?” And where is it?
The Expo in Miku Expo is where works of art related to Hatsune Miku is displayed, along with goods to buy, and information on games and other events. Also depending on where your concert takes place will determine where the ‘Expo’ is. For example at the 2014 Los Angeles Miku Expo, the fair took place just down the street from the venue on the same day, and was a one-day event only. In Japan select stores such as Animate will have a special corner dictated to Miku as part of the event.
