On May 4th, a public holiday in Japan, at the collaboration event “‘Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress’ Exhibition Meets Tower Records Shibuya”, Tasuku Hatanaka, who voices the work’s hero ‘Ikoma’ and Sayaka Senbongi, who voices the heroine ‘Mumei’, came together for a talk event.
Even though it was early in the morning, a lot of people attended this event on this day and it came to an end in a peaceful atmosphere.

１）Impressions of the Exhibition
Since we go into the recordings after we have received only the script and some rough scene images for the episodes, I was very surprised when I saw the storyboard, which originated only from the script and the rough scene images, for the first time. The director attached photos for better understanding the scenes and presented the powerful sound effects in letters. I was impressed that the director knew for every scene what and how it needs to be drawn.
Mr. Mikimoto’s images are just great. Each character on board of the iron fortress is drawn with such attention to detail. They took my breath away the first time I saw them.
２）From the first three episodes which has been aired until now, what are your favorite scenes?
In the second half of the first episode, I like the scene where Mumei and her guard, Shimon, part ways. It’s the scene where Shimon got biten by a kabane and takes his own life with a self exploding bag and Mumei makes sure that he is really dead, picks up courage again and goes on.
Usually a 12 years old won’t get over such a situation so easily and so fast.
It’s the scene where she gets over it and just goes on. I felt that this scene represents this work very well.
In the second episode where Mumei fights her way to the iron fortress by herself. It was the first action scene for me. Mumei says that she will finish the job in 110 seconds and the scene itself actually has a length of 110 seconds. This scene has a greater impact when you know those facts.
３）About the first recording of Mamoru Miyano who voices Biba
I can’t give you detailed information since it would spoiler you, but regarding Mr. Miyano’s work I can say that he’s taking his job seriously and is a great actor.
In addition, he is caring for the other actors and staff around him. I had the feeling that I met a person with really great charisma.
