The Hyper Projection Play “Haikyuu!!” held last autumn has brought down its curtain amid a tidal wave of enthusiasm.
It was only natural that a few months later, in spring 2016, the actors were brought together once again to perform Itadaki no Keshiki. A new documentary DVD full of behind-the-scenes and interviews, Hyper Projection Play “Haikyuu!! – Documentary of Itadaki no Keshiki, was released in September 14 with the special pre-release screening event taking place at Cinema Mediage and TOHO Cinemas Umeda.
Four actors showed up on stage: Kenta Suga (as Shoyo Hinata), Tatsunari Kimura (as Tobio Kageyama), Ryotaro Kosaka (as Kei Tsukishima), and Kairi Miura (as Tadashi Yamaguchi).
The talk show was mostly a sharing of memories. The actors reminisced on their shared experience and the difficulties they experiences playing their roles. Suga singled out a theater in Osaka named BRAVA! as one of the most memorable places because it closed down shortly after their performance. Kosaka revealed that he had a tough time trying not to breath hard and ruin the cool demeanor of his character, Tsukishima. Miura said that his personality is closer to Tsukishima than to Yamaguchi, “I was feeling kind of embarrassed while I was playing my character whose personality is opposite to mine.” Kimura, on the other hand, finds himself similar to his character, and he had trouble holding in his laughter while he improvised some of his lines. Sometimes, the laughter would be amplified by the speakers and that would make everyone laugh.
The MC, who heard that one of the actors has a special talent, asked Koyama to demonstrate it to the audience. Koyama tried rapping on a theme line, “The first grader from Karasuno”. The rap was just some gibberish stringed together, but that didn’t stop the audience from enjoying the moment.
The event was like a mini preview of the documentary. The members of the cast shared their hardships and feelings during their journey. But, like every creative journey, hardships are always accompanied by precious memories and funny moments.
Miura: “So, the continuation of our play will begin from October but this is all thanks to everyone’s support. I’ll do my utmost again with that in mind all the time. Until then, please enjoy watching the DVD!”
Kosaka: “We’re here all thanks to everyone’s support. I’m so full of gratitude for all the support and encouragement.”
Kimura: “I hope we can convey all of our passion as well as determination to everyone through this play.”
Suga: “I’ve got to say our theatrical group has some special passion. We also discovered some new stuff through the video and I think we were lucky to see it before we start the sequel. This video made me even more motivated to practice for the new work. I’d be very happy if you can sense our burning passion towards the play.”
