A report of this event has arrived!
“Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash -Grimgar, Live and Act-“ was held at Katsushika Symphony Hills of Tokyo on Sunday, June 19th, 2016.
Guests included a cast group which members consist of Yoshimasa Hosoya of Haruhiro, Hiroyuki Yoshino of Ranta, Nobunaga Shimazaki of Manato, Fukushi Ochiai of Moguzo, Mikako Komatsu of Yume, Haruka Terui of Shihoru and Chika Anzai of Merry, and a creative unit (K)Now_NAME which worked on the opening theme, soundtracks and anime songs.
In anime, music made in advance is usually modified to match with the movie. However, in this series, music was created for each story based on the actual movies, scenarios and storyboards.
In this event, the characteristic of this series’ music was well-expressed by holding a live music performance in between the recitations which follow the story of the TV series.
The event started with a scene in which Haruhiro picked up a handbook Manato left. After the music performance of “Knew day” and “Head Wind”, the live performances of the various impressive scenes such as the battle with the goblin right after the party was formed and an impact when they first killed a goblin are held.
After that the recitations and music performance were repeated and the event progressed. A highlight of the first part of the event was the episode regarding the death of Manato which was drawn impressively in the anime series. Here, details of Manato’s complex feelings were described, which weren’t available in the anime series. This was possible because the original creator Ao Juumonji handled all scenarios.
After that the event moved onto the scenes of Merry joining the party, rematch with the goblins which lead to the death of Manato and then to reporting before Manato’s tomb, and the first part ended. After a break, the event moved onto the latter part.
The members of the party started to make their challenge on Cyrene Mine where Merry has bitter memories of her previous party. Many famous scenes were recreated including the scenes of the “reunion” of Merry and her previous comrades who became immortal, the attack from the formidable enemy Dead Spot, the solitary struggle of Ranta who got separated from his comrades and the one-to-one battle of Haruhiro against the Dead Spot, making the audience excited.
Recitations went back to Haruhiro’s current view and then were concluded with a story of bright future.
Then the live music performance of “Harvest” and the end roll followed. Finally the cast and (K)NoW_NAME appeared on the stage like to a curtain call. Prompted by Komatsu, the master of ceremony, they each showed gratitude towards the audience. In this corner, the laughing audience could be seen many times contrary to the serious story of the series. As Hosotani commented “this stage was created together with the audience”, it was an event where you could feel the warmth of the creators and fans surrounding the story.
The event was concluded with the phrase “see your tomorrow!” led by Hosoya. As this phrase indicates, how the party and the story evolve are something to look forward to.
Also the Blu-ray of the event will be released on Wednesday, September 28th in 2016.
Comments from Original Creator Ao Juumonji Has Arrived!
I shouldn’t have seen such an event. I wish I never seen it… It was too good and too perfect. I wouldn’t be able to experience such an event ever again. I don’t want to believe that this was the first and the last one, and I can’t believe it either.
On the day of the event, I watched the performance with GenoPro. I felt very happy with a lingering feeling but I suffered from “fantasy loss” from the next day.
But I’m glad that I saw the performance. I’m happy that I got to be involved in the event. I didn’t have much time to complete the story but I didn’t want to ask somebody and thought that I want to finish it myself. I’m glad that I followed that feeling even though it meant pushing myself.
I will or can never forget about “Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash” which was created by the staff, the cast, other related people and the audience.
Until I turn into ash.
