The popular Japanese rock band Granrodeo released their new album Pierrot Dancin on February 11, and to commemorate the release they held a mini concert and public recording event at the Cutup Studio in Tower Records Shibuya, Tokyo.
Before the event, Kishow (Kisho Taniyama) and e-ZUKA (Masaaki Iizuka) first signed the Pierrot Dancin panel which was displayed in the first floor of Tower Records. They then went upstairs to make a surprise visit to the ‘Granrodeo × Tower Records～Pierrot Dancin’ Cafe～’ which is currently open inside Tower Records Cafe Shibuya. The fans at the café screamed with excitement, and the two members autographed every panel inside the store. Kishow and e-ZUKA walked around the store, kindly responding to their fans who were cheering from both inside and outside of the café. They also gave autographs and wrote comments on the collab-café’s poster and on the special coasters and posters distributed at the café.
After that, Kishow and e-ZUKA made a toast with the fans commemorating the album release. Before the toast, e-ZUKA made a joke by saying, ‘CHEERS!!’ out loud, and immediately saying after it, ‘…is what I say before making a toast, alright?’ Kishow drank ‘Under the Sky’ and e-ZUKA drank ‘Memories’, which are both beverages sold at the café. The two walked around and made a toast with every fan.
In the waiting room, Kishow ate the special menu items available at the café. Kishow first tried the pork cutlet on the ‘Shounen no Curry’ (Curry for Boys) with some vegetables. Then he took a big bite of the rice burger on the ‘Pierrot Dancin’ Plate’ and happily commented, ‘The patty inside tastes great!’
After finishing his rehearsal, e-ZUKA entered the waiting room, and drank ‘Memories’ again. He praised its flavor saying, ‘This really tastes good, doesn’t it?’ Kishow recommended the curry to e-ZUKA saying, ‘I think this tastes the best’. E-ZUKA took a bite and said, ‘Yeah, it has the perfect spiciness.’
At the public recording event, the two members joined the recording of an online radio program titled Granrodeo Mobile Web Radio “Bara-Radi. The event space was filled with Rodeo Boys and Rodeo Girls, which are the nicknames for Granrodeo fans. Kishow and e-ZUKA talked about each of the songs on their new album, explaining how the songs were made and sharing stories about the funny things that happened during the song recording. When they were talking about the new songs on the album, they checked the reactions of their fans, ‘We knew it! We knew you guys would love this song!’ During the Q&A session, not only did the two members answer the questions sent by e-mail, but also kindly answered questions from the fans at the event.
After the public recording, they held a mini concert and sang their songs in acoustic versions. Their first song was Shounen no Hate (The End of Boyhood). Then, they sang The other self, after sharing an episode about Yoshiki, the leader of legendary group X Japan, who played the song on piano for them when they were guests on the same TV show. Before their last song, they mentioned to the fans, ‘We’ve only performed the acoustic version of this last song during our promotional activities in the past few days, so it might be your first time hearing this version.’ They were proud to perform their last song Nichijou Horizon. The last two songs, which are originally very energetic and up-tempo, were performed in a completely different tone, and the fans were absorbed in their new arrangement.
The special event ended in great success. The hour-and-a-half long event was filled with a cozy atmosphere from beginning to end, and satisfied every Rodeo Boy and Rodeo Girl!
